Rochester, Minn. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's swimming & diving team completed first day action at the Rochester Invitational Thursday night at the Rochester-Olmstead County Recreation Center Natatorium.
The Eagles are in fourth-place with 395.5 points. St. Cloud State University (Minn.) leads the seven-team invitational with 700.0 points.
UWL's
Blake Nelson placed third (20.30) and
Jesse Hammes seventh (21.22) in the 50 freestyle championship final. The Eagles'
Jackson Plautz finished 13
th (21.40) and
Alex Starr (21.62) tied for 15
th in the 50 freestyle.
Other top-16 individual swimming finishes included
Jonah Elfers eighth (51.08) and
Caleb Jondle 15
th (52.72) in the 100 butterfly while
Tyler Hartmann finished 10
th (1:55.55) and Jondle 13
th (1:59.06) in the 200 I.M.
Ben Collins was 15
th (4:50.11) in the 500 freestyle.
In Thursday's one-meter diving competition, UWL's
Tony McNiff finished fifth (388.85 points) and
Evan Zimdars seventh (359.60).
UWL had a pair of top-nine relays on Thursday with Hammes, Hartmann, Elfers, and Nelson finishing fifth (1:30.83) while Collins,
Connor Cleveland,
Davin Evans and Jondle were ninth (7:07.77) in the 800 freestyle relay.
