Women's Basketball Opens 2024-25 Season With Exhibition at Northern Iowa University

Cedar Falls, Iowa - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team opened the 2024-25 season with a preseason exhibition loss at the University of Northern Iowa Monday night.

Records: The game counted as an official game for Northern Iowa which is now 1-0 while it was an exhibition for the Eagles. 
Next Up: UWL will officially open the season on November 9 and 10 when they travel to Eau Claire, Wis. to play in the Tip-off Tournament hosted by UW-Eau Claire. UWL will play Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday and Simpson College (Iowa) at 12 p.m. on Sunday.

HOW DID IT HAPPEN
  • The Panthers of UNI would get off to a fast start as they scored 13 of the first 17 points to lead 13-4 with 6:32 left in the opening quarter. UWL would cut their deficit to 15-10 on a layup by Lauryn Milne with 5:08 left. A Kailee Meeker three-pointer with :56 left would be the final points of the first quarter as Northern Iowa led 29-21.
  • UWL would be outscored 27-13 in the second quarter as they trailed 56-34 at the half. The Panthers shot 56.3% from the floor while UWL was limited to 38.5%.
  • Northern Iowa kept their hot shooting from floor in the third quarter as they shot 52.6%. The Panthers led 81-48 at the end of the third quarter. 
  • UWL was limited to just eight points in the fourth quarter as they shot three-of-10 (30%) from the floor.

  • Lindsey Knuth led three Eagles in double figures as she finished with 13 points. 
  • Joining Knuth in double figures was Lauryn Milne with 12 points and Kailee Meeker with 11.
  • UWL finished 20-of-53 (37.7%) from the floor including five-of-23 (21.7%) from the three-point line. The Eagles also finished 11-of-20 (55.0%) from the free throw line.
  • Northern Iowa finished with five players in double figures including Maya McDermott with 18 points while Ryley Goebel chipped in 14 points. 
  • The Panthers shot 36-of-68 (52.9%) from the floor including 10-of-27 (37.0%) from the three-point line. Northern Iowa also finished 17-of-25 (68.0%) from the free throw line.
