Holland, MIch. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team's upset bid came up just short as they fell 68-65 to #19 Hope College (Mich.) Tuesday night.

UWL will first play the Concordia Moorhead College (Minn.) at 6 p.m. on Saturday. Then on Sunday the Eagles will face the College of St. Benedict (Minn.) at 4:00 p.m.

HOW DID IT HAPPEN
- After two free throws by Leah Richards gave the Flying Dutch a 9-6 lead in the first quarter, a layup by Madisyn Kilboten and a jumper from Lauryn Milne would give the Eagles its first lead of the game at 10-9 with 4:58 remaining. Anna Richards then gave Hope a 12-10 lead but UWL would get back-to-back three-pointers by Milne and Malia Nelson to lead 16-12 (3:10). Hope would get a layup from Jada Garner to tie it at 18 at the end of the first quarter.
- The Flying Dutch would open the second quarter with a 11-4 run to take a 29-22 lead with 6:34 left in the half. Hope would extend their lead to its largest of the half at 39-29 with 1:57 left. UWL would get a three-pointer from Grace Knupp followed by a layup to finish the first half scoring at UWL trailed 39-34 at halftime.
- Ali Sprangers would score the first five points of the second half for UWL to tie the game at 39. Kailee Meeker would then give the Eagles a 43-41 lead before the Flying Dutch scored seven unanswered to lead 48-43 with 2:46 left in the third quarter. Katie Waukau would tie the game at 49 with a three-pointer before Garner's three-pointer gave Hope a 52-50 lead at the end of the third quarter.
- Milne's three-pointer would cut UWL's deficit to 54-53 (7:45); however, Hope would go on a 14-5 run to take its largest lead of the game at 68-58 with 2:10 remaining. Two free throws by Sprangers followed by a Knupp layup and three-pointer would pull UWL to within 68-65 with :55 left but that would be all the scoring for either team. Sprangers would get a three-pointer off with :02 left but Leah Richards blocked it to end the game.

- As a team, the Eagles finished 25-of-63 (39.7%) from the floor including 10-of-29 (34.5%) from the three point line. UWL was also five-of-seven from the free throw line.
- Individually UWL was led by Milne with 16 points while Sprangers finished with 13 and Knupp added 10 points.
- Nelson grabbed a team high eight rebounds to along with eight points and two steals.
- Hope shot 23-of-53 (43.4%) from the floor including six-of-18 (33.3%) from the three-point line. The Flying Dutch finished 16-of-22 (72.7%) from the free throw line.
- Anna Richards came off the bench to lead Hope with 18 points while Leah Richards added a team high eight rebounds to go along with eight points.
