UWL Earns Shutout Over UW-Oshkosh in WIAC Opener; Extends League Win Streak to Sixteen

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team, receiving votes on this week's United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III Top-25 Poll, opened Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play with a 3-0 victory over UW-Oshkosh Saturday night at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex. The Eagles improve to 7-3 overall while the Titans, also playing their league opener, drop to 1-8-2 overall.

UWL extended its conference winning streak to 16 straight with Saturday's victory. The Eagles last league loss came on October 23, 2021 at UW-Oshkosh. UWL has finished 7-0 the last two seasons. 

The game was scoreless at halftime after UWL recorded all 12 shots in the opening 45:00. The Eagles also had 10 corner kicks while holding the Titans to one in the first half. 

UWL took a 1-0 lead on Alexis McMahon's goal at 46:56. The Eagles made it 2-0 at 59:11 as Ellie Arndt scored off Aubree Caya's assist. UWL extended the lead to 3-0 after Lizzy Hanstedt scored on Megan McNeely's corner kick at 73:22.

Aubree Caya had two shots and one assist.


UWL finished with 23 shots, including 10 on goal. Arendt led the Eagles with three shots, including two on goal. Caya, Lindsey Szymanski, Ellie Behnke and Hayley Slaski each finished with two shots. The Eagles had 13 corner kicks in the game. 

Erelyn Apel recorded the shutout in goal to earn the victory, registering one save. 

UW-Oshkosh was held to a pair of shots with one on goal. Emma Sauriol suffered the loss, finishing with seven saves. The Titans had one corner kick. 

UWL returns to action Wednesday, October 9 at UW-Platteville at 7 p.m.
