La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball team dropped the first two sets but responded by winning the next two but was unable to complete the comeback as they fell to UW-Stevens Point.

HOW DID IT HAPPEN
- With the first set tied 5-5, UW-Stevens Point went on a 10-0 run to lead 15-5. UWL would not get any closer than seven as UW-Stevens Point took the first set 25-12.
- The Eagles would score five of the first six points in the second set before the Pointers went on a 12-1 run to take a 13-6 lead. UWL would cut their deficit to 23-16 but UW-Stevens Point would get a kill from Lauren Shaw and a service ace to win the second set 25-16.
- Leading 10-7 in the third set, UW-Stevens Point extended their lead to 17-11 before the Eagles would make a run of their own. The Eagles would go on a 12-4 run to take a 23-21 lead. The Pointers would get two kills and a service ace to regain the lead 24-23. Gabby Johnson then tied the set with a kill while a service ace by Taylor Larson would give UWL a 25-24 lead. A Pointers error on the next point would give the Eagles a 26-24 win.
- The fourth set was similar to the third set as UW-Stevens Point took an early lead but UW-La Crosse would make a late run. Trailing 10-6, UWL scored four straight to even the score at 10. Leading 17-15, UWL would get four straight kills including one each from Johnson, Jackie Oetterer, Reese Yocum and Paige Geiser. The Eagle would extend their lead to 24-18 and after a Pointers kill, a Yocum kill would give the Eagles a 25-19 set four win.
- The Pointers came out rolling in the fifth set as they scored seven of the first eight points and the Eagles would not be able to recover as they were held to just four points in the fifth set.
FROM THE BOX SCORE
- As a team, the Eagles hit .152 and were led by Johnson with 14 kills while Yocum added eight kills.
- Larson led the Eagles defense with a season high 30 digs.
- Oetterer finished with 34 assists and nine digs for the Eagles.
- The Pointers finished with four players in double figures including Ashley Kopp who had 16 kills to go along with 13 digs.

- The Eagles have a long break as they do not return to the court until October 16 when they travel to Oshkosh to play the Titans of UW-Oshkosh at 7 p.m.
