Eagles Fall to UW-Stout In Five Set Thriller

La Crosse, Wis.  - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball team could not pick up their first Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference win as the fell 3-2 to UW-Stout.

HOW DID IT HAPPEN
  • The Eagles jumped out to a 7-3 lead in the first set and extended their lead to 12-7. UW-Stout would cut their deficit to 15-14 before the Eagles went on a 4-0 run to lead 19-14. A Kennedy Barrett kills would pull UW-Stout to within 20-17 but UWL would score five of the final seven points to win the first set 25-19. 
  • UW-Stout opened the second set with a 6-1 run. The Eagles would respond with a run of their own as they turned a 9-6 deficit to an 11-9 lead with a 6-0 run. Trailing 13-12, UW-Stout went on a 13-3 run to close out the second set. 
  • With the third set tied at 10, UWL used a 4-1 run to take a 14-11 lead. After two kills by UW-Stout's Emma Barton and a Kailey Kline service, UWL scored six of the next seven points to take a 20-15 lead. The Blue Devils would not get closer than three (22-19) the rest of the way as the Eagles took the third set 25-19.
  • UW-Stout used a 10-4 run to start the fourth set and never trailed. The Blue Devils would extend their lead to as many as 10 points (20-10) and the Eagles would not get any closer than five (23-18) the rest of the set. 
  • With UWL leading 6-4 in the fifth set, UW-Stout used a 6-0 run to take a 10-6 lead. The Eagles slowly chipped away at their deficit and eventually pulled to within 14-13 on a Gabby Johnson kill. However, Brooke McCune would record the final point with a kill for the Blue Devils.

  • As a team, the Eagles hit .194 and were led by three players in double figures in kills including Johnson with 18. Joining Johnson in double figures was Kayla Sexton with 16 kills and Paige Geiser with 10.  
  • Taylor Larson and Sexton led the Eagles defense with 31 and 16 digs. 
  • Making the start at setter for the Eagles was Hally Holker who finished with 43 assists and 15 digs. 
  • UW-Stout finished hitting .203 as a team with Brooke McCune led the way with 28 kills. 
  • Kennedy Barrett finished with 48 assists while Terrah Moshier recorded 22 digs.
