Madison, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's tennis team completed first day action at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championship (presented by Culver's) Saturday night at the Nielsen Tennis Center.
The Eagles went 9-0 on Saturday.
All three doubles teams advanced to Sunday's championship match. At No. 1 doubles,
Tasha Bailey and
Shelby Roth earned a pair of victories. Seeded-third, the duo earned an 8-2 victory over sixth-seeded Alexis Budzinski/Chloe Struss of UW-River Falls in the opening round. Bailey/Roth earned an 8-6 win over second-seeded Samantha Fuchs/Anna Lee of UW-Eau Claire in the semifinals. They will face top-seeded UW-Whitewater's Gracie Ha/Abby Weaver for the title.
At No. 2 doubles, UWL's
Maia Samuelson and
Hannah Cady also went 2-0 as the second-seed. They defeated seventh-seeded UW-Stout's Aspen Johnson/Odessa Barreyro in the first round (8-0) and third-seeded UW-Oshkosh's Kayla Gibss/Mana Usui in the second round. Samuelson/Cady take on top-seeded UW-Whitewater's Molly Asfeld/Alex Repplier in the championship match.
The Eagles'
Lauren Lindow and
Emma Heinert, seeded first at No. 3 doubles, had a first round bye and then picked up an 8-1 win over fifth-seeded Allie Brosteau/Abigail Ashley of UW-Stevens Point in the second round. The duo will play second-seeded Ava Andrea/Crystina Lee of UW-Whitewater for the championship.
UWL advanced to the second round in all six singles flights. Bailey, seeded third at No. 1 singles, defeated sixth-seed Molly Garber of UW-Stout in the first round by scores of 6-1, 6-1. She will face second-seed Samantha Fuchs of UW-Eau Claire in the second round.
At No. 2 singles, Roth earned a 6-0, 6-0 win over seventh-seeded Aspen Johnson of UW-Stout. Roth, the tournament's second-seed, will face third-seed Molly Asfeld of UW-Whitewater in the second round.
Lindow is the top-seed at No. 3 singles. She received a first round bye and will take on fifth-seed Brooklyn Steier of UW-Stevens Point in the second round.
Second-seeded Samuelson won her opening match with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over seventh-seeded Odessa Barreyro of UW-Stout. She will take on third-seed Liv Herzog of UW-Eau Claire in the second round.
Heinert, seeded-third at No. 5 singles, defeated sixth-seeded Grace Aerts of UW-River Falls in the first round by scores of 6-1, 6-0. Heinert faces second-seeded Reese Burton of UW-Eau Claire in the second round.
At No. 6 singles, Cady received a first-round bye as the top-seed. She will face fifth-seeded Courtney Carpenter of UW-Oshkosh in the second round.
