Women's Basketball Falls to UW-Stevens Point; Milne Finishes with 20 Points

Stevens Point, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team had their five game win streak snapped as they fell 66-62 to UW-Stevens Point Saturday afternoon.

HOW DID IT HAPPEN
  • The Eagles scored the first five points of the game and took an early 7-2 lead with 6:24 left in the first quarter. Rachel Hagen hit two free throws UW-Stevens Points deficit to 7-6 with 5:21 on the clock. A Lauryn Milne layup would give the Eagles a 9-6 lead before the Pointers Hagen hit a jumper with :26 left to make the score 9-8 after the first quarter. Milne scored seven points in the first quarter. 
  • The Pointers opened the second quarter with an 8-4 run to take a 17-13 lead with 7:09 left in the second quarter. Lindsey Knuth hit a three-pointer to pull the Eagles within 20-19 before back-to-back layups by the Pointers made it 24-19 with 3:40 left in the half. The Eagles then scored the final seven points of the half to lead 26-24 at halftime. 
  • The Eagles extended their run to start the third quarter as they took a 31-26 lead on a Knuth three-pointer. Courtney Krueger's jumper cut the Pointers deficit to 36-34 with 5:51 left; however, UWL scored nine of the next 12 points to extend their lead to 45-37. Madisyn Kilboten hit a three-pointer to give the Eagles a 48-39 lead before the Pointers scored the final four points of the quarter to make it 48-43 after three quarters.
  • A Krueger jumper and Jamie Pfeifer three-pointer on UW-Stevens Point first two possessions of the fourth quarter tied the game at 48. After UWL took a 52-51 lead on a Kilboten jumper, UW-Stevens Point scored eight of the next ten points to lead 59-54 with 3:00 left. Krueger made the Pointers lead 62-56 with :31 left but Knuth cut it to 62-59 on a three-pointer. Alexa Thomson hit two free throws to make it 64-59 but Milne's three-pointer to make it 64-62. :12 left. Krueger hit two free throws for the final scoring of the game.

  • The Eagles were led by Milne with 20 points while Knuth added 13 points. 
  • Kailee Meeker led the Eagles with nine rebounds to go along with seven points. 
  • As a team, the Eagles shot 23-of-61 (37.7%) including eight-of-24 (33.3%) from the three-point line. UWL was also eight-of-nine (88.9%) from the free throw line. 
  • The Pointers were led by four scorers in double figures including Krueger and Gabby Gawlitta with 14 points each. 
  • UW-Stevens Point finished 24-of-63 (38.1%) from the floor including six-of-18 (33.3%) from the three-point line. UW-Stevens Point was also 12-of-22 (54.5%) from the free throw line.
