Women's Basketball Falls to Nationally Ranked UW-Oshkosh; Milne Finishes with 25

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team lost their second straight Wisconsin Intercolegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) contest as they fell to UW-Oshkosh Wednesday night at Mitchell Hall.

HOW DID IT HAPPEN
  • Lauryn Milne gave UWL an early 3-0 lead after the Eagles first possession;however, UW-Oshkosh would score 15 unanswered points to lead 15-3 with 1:39 left in the first quarter. Ali Sprangers would end the Titans run with a three-pointer. Allison Forney would give the Titans an 18-6 lead before the Eagles scored the final five points of the quarter to trail 18-11. Madisyn Kilboten recorded a steal and a layup as time expired for the final points of the first quarter.
  • On the Eagles first possession of the second quarter, Lindsey Knuth hit a three -pointer followed by a jumper from Layryn Milne and a three-pointer from Kailee Meeker to pull the Eagles within 20-19 (7:35). After Kennedy Osterman gave the Titans a 24-21 lead, Katie Waukau tied the game with a three-pointer while Milne gave the Eagles a 26-24 lead with a jumper of her own with 3:58 left in the half. Osterman gave the Titans the lead back with a three-pointer and a layup to put UW-Oshkosh up 29-26. Milne would hit a jumper for the Eagles as UWL trailed 29-28 at the half. 
  • UW-Oshkosh outscored UWL 18-10 in the third quarter  including taking a 13 point lead (47-34) with 2:04 left. The Titans used a 15-3 run to give them the 13 point lead. A layup by Kilboten and two free throws from Paige Schumann cut the Titans lead to 47-38 after three-quarters. 
  • UWL would cut their deficit to seven on multiple occasions including 52-45 (5:06) but that would be as close as the Eagles would get the rest of the way. UW-Oshkosh would hit five of their final six free throws to help seal the win. 
   
FROM THE BOXSCORE
  • Milne led all scorers with a game high 25 points to go along with a team high eight rebounds. Milne hit five three-pointers for the Eagles.
  • Schumann finished with four points, six assists and four rebounds in 38 minutes. 
  • As a team, UWL finished 19-of-45 (42.2%) from the floor including 10-of-26 (38.5%0 from behind the three-point line. The Eagles were also eight-of-12 (66.7%) from the free throw line.
  • Osterman led the Titans with 18 points while Kayce Vaile added 16 points and Kate Huml finished with 11.
  • For the game, UW-Oshkosh shot 21-of-44 (47.7%) from the floor including nine-of-23 (39.1%) from the three-point line. The Titans finished 17-of-22 (77.3)from the free throw line.
