Whitewater, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's tennis team completed action at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regional Championships and Midwest Invitational Saturday afternoon. No team scores were recorded.
At the ITA Midwest Regional,
Emma Heinert and
Shelby Roth both finished 2-1 in singles play. Heinert defeated Becca Vala of Central College (Iowa) in the first round (6-2, 6-0) and 22nd-seeded Kellie Ha of UW-Whitewater in the second round (6-3, 3-6, 10-8), but fell to 10th-seeded Irene Agusti of Grinnell College (Iowa) in the third round (6-1, 6-1). Roth opened the tournament with a victory (6-1, 6-0) over Jewel Lindwall of Edgewood College (Wis.) and beat 30th-seed Quinlyn Mack of UW-Stevens Point in the second round (6-1, 6-4). She lost to sixth-seeded Molly Austin of Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) in the third round (6-0, 7-6).
izzy Schmiesing and Kate Townsend won the doubles title.
Hannah Cady,
Kate Townsend and
Lauren Lindow all finished 1-1 in singles play.
Tasha Bailey and
Avery Nicholson both went 0-1 in singles.
In the ITA Midwest Regional Doubles, Bailey/Lindow, Roth/Cady and
Maia Samuelson/
Izabelle Brinkman all went 1-1.
UWL's Samuelson took the Midwest Invite Singles Flight A title on Saturday with a 4-0 record. She opened the tournament with a victory over Maggie Hall of Simpson (Iowa) in the first round (6-0, 6-0) followed by a victory (6-1, 6-1) over Jordan Scharf of UW-Stevens Point. Samuelson defeated Brinkman in the semifinals (6-1, 6-1) and captured the individual crown (6-1, 6-2) over Erin Horzewski of Carroll University (Wis.). Brinkman went 1-1 in Flight A.
In the Midwest Invite Singles Flight B,
Izzy Schmiesing went 1-1 while
Zoe Klicker finished 0-1.
Avrie Morris placed second in Singles Flight D, going 3-1. She defeated Clair Moore of Loras College (Iowa) in the first round (6-1, 6-2) and Chloe Leithold of UW-Stevens Point in the semifnials (6-2, 4-6-, 10-8). Morris dropped the title match (6-4, 6-3) to Lot van den Broek of Luther College (Iowa).
Schmiesing/Townsend took the Doubles A Flight on Saturday, finishing 4-0 overall. After receiving a walk-over versus Karley Way/Stephania Gonzolez of MSOE (Wis.) in the first round, the duo defeated Bruna Costa/Lena Lichau of Luther (Iowa) in the quarterfinals (8-7). Schmiesing/Townsend defeated Kira Young/Greta Nesbit of St. Benedict (Minn.) in the semifinals and beat Madalyn Connaughtry/Ellie Murphy of Edgewood College (Wis.) in the championship match (8-5).
Heinert/Nicholson went 0-1 in doubles.
In the Midwest Invite Doubles Flight B, Klicker/Morris finished second with a 3-1 record. They defeated Aalaiya Jacklin/Makayla Counsell of Carroll (Wis.) in the first round (8-5) and Kiley Nolan/Natalie Neff of Luther (Iowa) in the quarterfinals (8-5). Klicker/Morris advanced to the championship match with a walkover of Emma Thurness/Hayden Evans of Wartburg (Iowa) in the semifinals. Klicker/Morris dropped the title match (8-5) to Rafaela Tavares/van den Broek of Luther (Iowa).
