Volleyball Splits Non-conference Triangular; Falls to Edgewood, Beats Loras

La Crosse, Wis.  - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball team split a pair of non-conference matches as they fell to Edgewood College (Wis.) before defeating Loras College (Iowa) Friday night.

  Edgewood College (Wis.) defeated UW-La Crosse 25-17, 25-23, 19-25, 25-16,  UW-La Crosse defeated Loras College (Iowa) 20-25, 25-13, 27-25, 25-16

  • Leading 8-6, Edgewood (Wis.) went on a 10-3 run to to take an 18-9 lead in the first set. The Eagles would not get any closer than six (18-12) as they were held to just eight kills in the first set. 
  • Trailing for most of the second set, UWL used a 4-1 run to tie the game up at 19. After an Edgewood (WIs.) kill by Abigail Hoffmann made it 22-21, UWL got a kill from Reese Yocum to tie it at 21. Edgewood then took a 23-21 lead before Brianne Korducki and Kaity Coisman recorded back-to-back kills to make it 23-23. But the Eagles of Edgewood got kills from Abbey Falk and Ashley Bruehlman to take a 2-0 lead.
  • Edgewood (Wis.) would hit a combined .324 over the first two sets but in the third set, UWL would hold them to a hitting percentage of .125. With the score tied 4-4, UWL took an 11-7 lead on back-to-back kills. Edgewood cut their deficit to 16-14, but UWL responded with a 6-2 run to take its largest lead of the set (22-16). UWL forced two Edgewood errors followed by a service ace from Gabrialla Johnson to win the third set 25-19.
  • Edgewood (Wis.) would open the fourth set on a 19-5 run and would never let UWL back in. The Eagles would cut their deficit to 20-10 but UWL would not get any closer than seven points in the fourth set. 
UW-LA CROSSE 3, Loras College 1
  • With the score tied at 7, Loras (Iowa) built a small lead (11-7) on three straight hitting errors by the Eagles and a Loras service ace. Leading 13-11, Loras went on a 7-3 run to lead 20-14 and the Eagles would not threaten again. 
  • Leading 7-5, UWL went on a 7-0 run to take a 14-5 lead. Korducki recorded three kills during the UWL run. 
  • The Eagles got their offense going in the second set as they record 13 kills and just five hitting errors.. Trailing early in the thrid set allowed the Eagles to show off their fight as they battled back to a 17-17 tie.
  • The third set saw the Eagles hit much better (.343). UWL hit .343 in the third set including 15 kills and 3 hitting errors.  UWL used an opening run to help seperate them from the DuHawks. 
  • Then in the fourth set, leading 7-4, UWL outscored Loras (Iowa) 10-3 to seperate from Loras.

  • Korducki led the Eagles with 30 combined kills and 26 digs. 
  • Rossner finished with 17 kills and just one hitting error for the Eagles. 
  • Jackie Oetterer ran the offense for the Eagles as she finished with 53 assists while also recording four service aces.
  • Hoffman and Bruehlman led Edgewood (Wis.) with 16 and 15 kills respecitvely.
  • Sophie Younkin led the Duhawks of Loras (Iowa) with 11 kills.

  • UWL will return to Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play on Wednesday, September 27 when they travel to UW-Whitewater. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
