Four Selected to CSC Academic All-District® Track & Field/Cross Country Team

La Crosse, Wis. - Four members of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's cross country and track & field teams have been named to the 2023 Academic All-District® Men's Cross Country and Track & Field Team, selected by the College Sports Communicators (CSC), the organization announced Wednesday. Senior Cameron Sorenson of Oshkosh (North) and juniors Reed Anderson of Cottage Grove (Monona Grove), Parker Huhn of Bettendorf, Iowa (Pleasant Valley) and Isaac Wegner of Durand (H.S.) all earned accolades. 

Sorenson was named the recipient of the 2023 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Max Sparger Men's Outdoor Track & Field Scholar-Athlete Award. He is double-majoring in sociology and political science and sustains a 3.78 grade point average. He will be attending the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) School of Law in the fall of 2023. Sorenson is a three-time member of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team, as well as the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll. He has conducted capstone research on welfare assistance and state fragility, and socio-economic factors and violent crime rates. Sorenson has been recognized on UWL's Dean's List numerous semesters. Sorenson is a volunteer and former staff member at the Local Boys and Girls Club of Greater La Crosse, as well as a volunteer at the La Crosse Community Thanksgiving Dinner, Veterans Day Breakfast and the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) Track & Field Championships.Logo

At this year's WIAC Outdoor Championship, he finished as the runner-up in the long jump for the second straight season after placing fourth in 2019. Sorenson added a sixth-place finish in the javelin this season. He secured USTFCCCA All-North Region honors in the long jump in 2022, and has helped UWL secure three league titles (2019, 2021, 2023).
 
Anderson, a biochemistry and biology major with a concentration in molecular genetics and a nutrition minor with a 3.77 cumulative grade point average, has been on UWL's Dean's List seven semesters while earning USTFCCCA Scholar Team honors. He is a volunteer tutor in the chemistry tutor center as well as volunteering for the Enchanted Forest Trick or Treat event. Anderson has also volunteered at the Veterans Breakfast and at the WIAA Championships. A member of the UWL Chemistry and Biochemistry Club and the Pre-Med Club, Anderson is a member of UWL's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). 

He earned 2022 All-WIAC Honorable Mention awards after placing 18th at the league championships. Anderson was 53rd at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Regional. He also placed 14th at the National Preview Meet and 37th at the Jim Drews Invitational.

An exercise sport science-pre-professional track major with an emphasis in competitive coaching, Huhn maintains a 3.94 grade point average. He earned the Friends of Hans and Ella Reuter Scholarship at UWL twice and has been a member of UWL's Dean's List four semesters. Huhn is a two-year member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll and USTFCCCA Scholar Team. He has volunteered at the Hixon Trail Restoration Projects, Enchanged Forest and WIAA Track & Field Championships. He has worked as a physical therapy assistant at Dynamic Performance and Therapy. 

Huhn competed at the 2022 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships after earning NCAA III All-Region honors with a 26th-place finish. He was a 2022 All-WIAC Second Team choice after finishing 10th at the league championships. Huhn recorded four other top-37 finishes this season, including 11th at the Jim Drews Invitational and 19th at the Concordia University Wisconsin Invitational. He was 24th at the National Preview Meet and 37th at the University of Minnesota Roy Griak Invitational.

Wegner is a history and cultural anthropology major with a 3.97 cumulative grade point average. He has been a member of UWL's Dean's List eight semesters. Wegner is a four-time member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll and two-time USTFCCCA All-Academic Team in cross country and track & field. A member of the UWL Anthropology and History Clubs, Wegner is the track & field representative for SAAC. He has volunteered for Hunger Task Force and the Veterans Day Breakfast. Wegner has also volunteered for cleaning local hiking trails as well as the Enchanted Forest Trick or Treat and the WIAA State Championships.

He earned 2022 NCAA Division III All-America honors with an 12th-place finish at the championships. Wegner was an NCAA Division III All-Region selection with a fourth-place finish this season and earned All-WIAC First Team accolades with a third-place finish. He recorded four other top-six individual finishes, placing fourth at the Griak Invitational and National Preview Meet, fifth at the Jim Drews Invitational and sixth at the Concordia Wisconsin Invitational. 

The 2023 Academic All-District® Men's Track & Field/Cross Country Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in the athletic realm and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot.

First-, second and third-team Academic All- America® honorees will be announced June 29.

The Division II and III CSC Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2022-23 Divisions II and III Academic All- America® programs. The NAIA CSC Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported through the NAIA national office.

To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his current institution.
