La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's track and field team captured the Ashton May Invitational Friday night at Roger Harring Stadium at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex. The Eagles finished with 266.5 team points while UW-Oshkosh was second with 132.0 and UW-Eau Claire third with 115.5. A total of six teams competed.
UWL won eight individual events on Friday, including five on the track and three in the field events.
Sam Blaskowski took the 100-meter dash (10.20) and long jump (24-0 1/4). Other winners on the track included
Caden Pearce in the 400-meter dash (47.53),
Dirk Lueck in the 400-meter hurdles (54.35), Elias Ritze in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:16.17) and
Zach Slevin in the 5,000-meter run (15:15.81).
In Friday's field events,
William Cady took the triple jump (47-3) and
Aiden Williams the hammer throw (181-8).

Other top-six finishers on the track included
Ryder Smith second (10.45) in the 100-meter dash and
Payton Flood second (54.68) in the 400-meter hurdles.
Chase Doornink was second (47.89),
Tyler Backes third (48.16) and
Addison Hill fourth (48.11) in the 400-meter dash while Luke Chaffin finished second (9:17.52),
Jayden Zywicki fifth (9:20.31) and
Ben Stangel sixth (9:25.58) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Cael Schoemann was third (1:53.77) and
Michael Madoch fifth (1:54.04) in the 800-meter run while Madoch was also fifth (3:52.21) in the 1,500-meter run.
Luke Vance finished fourth (22.18) and Paul Lough sixth (22.50) in the 200-meter dash with
Bryant Yanke fourth (15.10) in the 110-meter hurdles.
JT Zell placed second (14-11),
Christian Schultz third (14-11),
Ashton Moody fifth (14-5 1/4) and Zach Hayes sixth (13-11 1/4) in the pole vault on Friday.
Evan Daley finished second (6-4) and
Nathan Andringa fourth (6-4) in the high jump while
Triton Schmidt finished second (23-1 3/4),
Cameron Sorenson third (23-0) and
Andrew Hermes sixth (22-4 1/2) In the long jump. The Eagles'
Nick Crary was third (45-4 1/2) and
Chase Roehl fourth (45-1 3/4) in the triple jump.
UWL's
Bryce Sitko placed third (151-8) and
Spencer Prats sixth (139-5) in the discus throw while
Douglas Grace finished fourth (163-4) and
Logan Powers fifth (157-2) in the hammer throw.
Nolan Seaberg finished fourth (154-9) in the javelin throw.
The meet is named for former assistant women's track & field coach Ashton May, who passed away September 16, 2012 after a traffic accident north of Adams, Minnesota. She completed her second season as an assistant coach with the Eagles in 2011-12. May earned her degree from UWL in 2010 in elementary education and was a math and social studies teacher at Holmen (Wis.) Middle School. May will be inducted into the UWL Wall of Fame this fall.
A four-year track & field letter winner for the Eagles, she earned 10 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III All-America awards, including second-place finishes in the long jump and triple jump at the 2010 outdoor championships. May was also second in the long jump at the 2010 indoor national championships. She was inducted into the UWL Wall of Fame in 2022.
