River Falls, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse lacrosse team fell, 16-13, to UW-River Falls Wednesday afternoon at Ramer Field. The Eagles drop to 8-3 overall while the Falcons improve to 6-5. UWL has its seven-game winning streak snapped with the loss.
UW-River Falls scored the first two goals of the game as Grace Hannula scored with 14:25 left in the first quarter while Kyla Palo gave the Falcons a 2-0 lead with 10:03 remaining. UWL got on the scoreboard with 9:38 remaining in the opener quarter on

The Eagles tied the game at 2-2 with 13:23 remaining in the first half on

Kiersten Pelletier assist. The Falcons took a 4-2 lead on a pair of goals from Bailey O'Donovan, coming with 12:31 and 9:11 left in the second quarter. Josie Johnson recorded an assist on the second goal.
Olivia Gscheidmeier cut the lead to 4-3 for UWL with 8:43 remaining on a
Ava Schiltz assist. Hannula scord with 6:10 left to give UW-River Falls a 5-3 lead, but Schiltz' goal with 5:13 remaining cut the deficit to 5-4. O'Donovan's goal with 3:26 left extended the Falcons lead to 6-4 before
Lauren Schwartz goal on a Schiltz assist with 2:38 remaining cut the halftime lead to 6-5.
UW-River Falls outscored UWL, 4-1, to start the third quarter to give the Falcons a 10-6 lead. Johnson scored with 14:07 left and Emma Heerey with 13:13 remaining to make it 8-5. Steigauf cut it to 8-6 on a free position shot with 9:37 left, but Heerey (7:59) and Johnson (5:01) gave UW-River Falls to make it 10-6. UWL responded with four straight goals in the final 1:39 of the third quarter to force a 10-10 tie.
Grace Willmott scored to cut it to 10-7 with 1:39 left and Feeney notched goals with 1:11 and :33 remaining to make it a one-goal game. Gscheidmeier and Schiltz recorded assists on Feeney's goals. Schwartz tied the game with :08 left to tie it, 10-10.
UWL continued its scoring streak with the first two goals of the fourth quarter. Schwartz gave the Eagles an 11-10 lead on a free position shot with 13:57 left and Schiltz' goal with 13:18 remaining gave UWL a 12-10 lead. UW-River Falls cut it to 12-11 with 11:46 left on Heerey's free position shot and tied it with 11:34 remaining on O'Donovan's goal. Hannula goal with 11:07 left gave the Falcons a 13-12 lead and Heery scored another goal on a free position shot with 9:51 remaining to make it a two-goal lead.
Ava Schiltz
Feeney's man-up goal with 2:45 left cut the lead to 14-13, but Johnson scored on a free position shot for UW-River Falls to make it 15-13 with 2:10 remaining. Hannula added a goal with 1:29 left to extend the lead to 16-13.
UWL finished with 28 shots in the game. Feeney led UWL with four thoals while Schwartz finished with three. Schiltz and Steigauf each had two goals with Schiltz finshing with a team-high three assists.
Abi Furlano recorded 16 saves.
UW-River Falls totaled 43 shots with Heerey, O'Donovan, Johnson and Hannula each scoring four goals. Abby Hammond had seven saves.
UWL returns to action Saturday, April 15 hosting UW-River Falls at 1 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex.
