Winona, Minn. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse baseball team earned a 9-4 win at Saint Mary's University (Minn.) Tuesday afternoon at Max Molock Field. The Eagles improve to 10-3 on the season while the Cardinals drop to 4-8.
The game was scoreless until UWL tallied three runs in the top of the third.
Jack Moran singled to start the inning and stole second with one out.
Mac Born followed with an RBI single to knock in Moran with the game's first run.
Anthony Vivian then delivered a two-run home run to score Born and extend the lead to 3-0.
Tucker Bouche earned the Tuesday afternoon.
Saint Mary's (Minn.) took a 4-3 lead with four runs in the bottom of the fifth. Cam Miller walked to lead-off the inning and scored on Tanner Bauman's RBI double to get the Cardinals on the board to cut the lead to 3-1. Bauman stole third and Ben Coons walked to put runners on the corners. After a strikeout. Bauman came in on Cameron Weber's sacrifice fly to make it a one-run game. Coons stole second and Trevon VanEgtern walked followed by a Riley Bauman single to score Coons with the tying run. Egtern later scored on a wild pitch after a UWL pitching change.
UWL tied the game in the top of the sixth.
Ty Hamilton doubled with one out and later scored on
Jack Olver's two-out single to make it 4-4.
The Eagles rallied for five runs over the last two innings. In the eighth, Vivian singled to start the inning and went to second on Hamilton's sacrifice bunt.
George Seaman followed with a run-scoring single to knock in Vivian to give UWL a 5-4 lead. Seaman later scored on a
Jordan Williams single to give the Eagles a two-run lead.
Chris VandenHeuvel scored on Moran's single to extend the lead to 7-4. Olver had a two-run double in the ninth.
UWL finished with 15 hits Tuesday afternoon as all nine starters recorded at least one. Moran went 3-for-5 with one run and one RBI while Vivian finished 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBI. Olver went 2-for-5 with three RBI and
Logan Pye 2-for-5.
Tucker Bouche earned the win for UWL, pitching 3.1 innings in relief, allowing two hits and one walk with two strikeouts.
Isaiah Katz started for the Eagles, going 2.0 innings, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out one.
Five different players recorded a hit for Saint Mary's (Minn.). Eric Stomberg suffered the loss for the Cardinals, pitching 2.0 innings, allowing five hits, three runs and one walk.
UWL returns to Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play with a doubleheader at UW-Platteville on Saturday, April 1 starting at noon.
