UWL Rallies for Fourth Straight Win; Olver Delivers Walk-off Single

Davenport, Fla. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse baseball team rallied for a 4-3 win over Hope College (Mich.) Monday morning at NorthEast Regional Park. The Eagles improve to 5-2 with their fourth straight victory while the Dutchmen drop to 4-7.

Hope (Mich.) took 1-0 lead in the top of the second. Caleb Regan and Owen Krizan walked to start the inning and advanced into scoring position after a groundout. Regan then scored as Nolan Gardner reached on a UWL error for the game's first run.

The Dutchmen added to their lead with two runs in the fifth. Spencer Cable doubled with one out and Kainan Bayn reached on a error. Logan McCoy followed with a double to knock in Cable for a 2-0 lead and Regan's RBI single scored Bayn to extend the lead to 3-0. 

UWL tied the game with three runs in the bottom of the eighth. Jordan Williams singled to lead-off the inning and stole second with one out. Jack Olver's single advanced Williams to third and Mac Born knocked in Williams with an RBI single to make it 3-1. After a Hope (Mich.) pitching change, George Seaman reached on an error and went to second on the play with Born moving to third and Oliver scoring to cut the lead to one. Ty Hamilton was hit-by-pitch to load the bases and Born later scored on a wild pitch with two outs to the game. 

Caleb Matl struck out the first two hitters in the top of the ninth before Bayn walked. Andrew Pickett pinch ran but was thrown out trying to steal second base by Tim Urlaub

Urlaub reached on a Hope (Mich.) error to start the bottom of the ninth and went to second on Williams' sacrifice bunt. After an infield flyout, Olver delivered a two-out walk-off single scoring Urlaub with the winning run. 

Matl earned the win, pitching 1.0 inning with one walk while striking out two. Owen Anderson started for the Eagles, going 6.0 innings, allowing six hits, three runs (two earned) and two walks with four strikeouts. Tucker Bouche went 2.0 innings, allowing two hits with one strikeout. 

UWL finished with eight hits in the game. Olver, Born and Hamilton each had two hits. 

Branden Rosenfeld suffered the loss, pitching 1.1 innings, allowing one hit and one unearned run with one strikeout. Mason Belmore started for Hope (Mich.), going 7.0 innings, allowing four hits and one walk while striking out five. Reece Crabtree pitched 0.1 of an inning, allowing three hits, three runs (one earned) and one strikeout. 

The Dutchmen finished with eight hits as Regan and Krizan each had two.

UWL wraps up its spring trip facing Kalamazoo College (Mich.) at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, March 21 in Davenport.
