Behnke's Goal Leads to Win over UW-Superior in NCAA Division III First Round

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team earned a a 1-0 victory over UW-Superior Saturday afternoon in the first round of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Tournament at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex.  The Eagles, ranked 11th on the United Soccer Coaches Top-25 Poll, will play the winner of the St. Catherine University (Minn.)/Simpson College (Iowa) game in the second round on Sunday, November 12 at 3 p.m.

UWL improves to 18-1-1 on the season with Saturday's win while UW-Superior ends its season at 16-6-1.

The Eagles now lead the all-time series, 23-0, with the Yellowjackets.

The Eagles' Ellie Behnke scored the game's only goal at 32:53, assisted by Hayley Slaski and Claire Cater. UWL totaled 26 shots in the first half while recording 10 corner kicks.  

UW-Superior was held without a shot in the opening 45:00. 

UWL added 16 shots in the second half to finish with 42 overall, including 19 on goals. Maggie Hernandez recorded eight shots with five on goal while Ainsley Allan had seven shots with two on goal. Arndt totaled five shots with three coming on goal. Fourteen different players recorded a shot. 

The Eagles totaled 14 corner kicks.

UW-Superior did not record a shot in the game while finishing with one corner kick.

Sophia Anger earned the win for UWL while Quinn Clark, who registered 18 saves, suffered the loss for UW-Superior. 

Making its sixth appearance (2015, 2017, 2018, 2021, 2022, 2023) in school history in the national championships, UWL is now 9-4-3 all-time in the NCAA Division III Championships. All six appearances have come under head coach Jason Murphy.
