La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team, ranked 10th on this week's United Soccer Coaches National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Poll, earned its seventh shutout of the season Wednesday night with a 2-0 victory over UW-Platteville at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex. The Eagles improve to 10-1 overall and 2-0 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Pioneers drop to 4-2-3 overall and 0-1-1 in the conference.
Alexis McMahon had an assist in Wednesday's win.
UWL has now allowed five goals in 11 matches, a 0.45 goals against average.Â
The Eagles took a 1-0 lead at 26:55 on
Ainsley Allan's eighth goal of the season, assisted by
Alexis McMahon and
Maggie Hernandez. UWL extended its lead to 2-0 at 36:49 after
Aubree Caya's second goal of the year with
Sera Speltz getting the assist.Â
UWL out shot UW-Platteville, 17-6, in the first half, while having all five corner kicks in the game.Â
Sophia Anger recorded three saves Wednesday.
UWL finished with 25 shots Wednesday, including seven on goal. Allan had a game-high seven shots with two on goal.
Ellie Arndt finished with four shots (one on goal) while McMahon, Hernandez,
Lindsey Szymanski and
Ellie Behnke each had two shots. Â
UW-Platteville was held to nine shots with three on goal. Sophie Carlos had two shots with one on goal while Lydia Smith totaled two shots (both on goal) and Arianna Lombardi had two shots.Â
Sophia Anger earned the shutout win for UWL, finishing with three saves in 90:00. Julianna Penniston suffered the loss for UW-Platteville, allowing two goals in 64:17 while recording one save. Madison Way started for the Pioneers, playing 25:43 with four saves before leaving the contest with an injury.Â
UWL returns to action Saturday, October 7 hosting UW-Whitewater at 2 p.m.Â
