Madison, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's tennis team completed first day action in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championship (presented by Culver's) Saturday at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium. The championships resume Sunday, October 22 at 9 a.m. 
 

THE BASICS

• Location: Nielson Tennis Center, Madison, Wis. 
• Format: First two rounds of doubles and one round of singles were played on Saturday.
• What is at stake: The top four teams (following the conclusion of the WIAC championship will advance to a team tournament that will determine the conference's automatic qualifier to the National Collegiate Athletic Conference Division III Championships May 20-28 at Dwight Davis Memorial Tennis Center in St. Louis, MO. The team tournament will be held at the site of the overall conference champion on April 27, 2024.

WHAT HAPPENED
    Doubles Competition

• At No. 1 doubles, Shelby Roth and Hannah Cady defeated Ellie Becker/Ella Lamppa of UW-Stout 8-2. Then in their semifinal match, Roth/Cady defeated Clare Palen and Samantha Fuchs of UW-Eau Claire 8-5. Roth/Cady will now face Cassie Lee and Gracie Ha of UW-Whitewater in the Championship Match. 
• At No. 2 doubles, Tasha Bailey and Lauren Lindow defeated Ashlyn Dellemann/Lexie Stein of UW-Stout 8-1. Bailey/Lindow defeated Morgan Dekan and Sydney Presler of UW-Eau Claire 8-1. Bailey/Lindow will now face Kellie Ha and Molly Asfeld of UW-Whitewater in the Championship Match. 
• Then at No. 3 doubles, Maia Samuelson and Izabelle Brinkman lost to Brooklynn Steier/Grace Henes of UW-Stevens Point 8-7 (7-5). Then in their second round match, Samuelson/Brinkman had a bye. Samuelson/Brinkman will face Chloe Struss and Tegan McFarlane of UW-River Falls in the fifth place match. 

    Singles Competition

• At No. 1 singles,Tasha Bailey defeated Becker (UW-Stout) 6-0, 6-4. In her semifinal match, Bailey will face Palen from UW-Eau Claire. 
• At No. 2 singles, Lauren Lindow defeated Dellemann (UW-Stout) 6-0, 6-1. Lindow will now face Fuchs of UW-Eau Claire in her semifinal match. 
• At No. 3 singles, Shelby Roth defeated Sarah Baker of UW-River Falls 6-1, 6-0. Next up for Roth is UW-Whitewater's Kellie Ha. 
• Hannah Cady defeated Chloe Leithold of UW-Stevens Point 6-7 (7-5), 6-0 (10-8) at No. 4 singles. Cady will now face Presler of UW-Eau Claire 
• At No. 5 singles, Kate Townsend defeated Halle Bruggeman of UW-Stout 6-1, 6-1. Townsend will now face Alex Repplier of UW-Whitewater in the semifinal round. 
• Finally at No.6 singles, Emma Heinert defeated McFarlane (UW-River Falls) 6-0, 6-0. Heinert now matches up with Dekan from UW-Eau Claire.
