Menomonie, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team used four first half goals to earn a 6-1 victory at UW-Stout Wednesday night at Nelson Field. The Eagles, ranked 11th on this week's United Soccer Coaches Top-25 Poll, improve to 13-1-1 overall and 5-0 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC). The Blue Devils drop to 3-10-2 overall and 0-5 in the conference.
UWL took a 1-0 lead at 4:23 on
Maggie Hernandez' goal assisted by
Alexis McMahon. The Eagles made it 2-0 with
Jillian Sawadski's goal on a
Sophie Pope assist. UW-Stout cut the deficit to 2-1 at 34:42 when Hailey Kane scored off Hannah Hagman's assist. UWL quickly retook its three goal lead at 35:04 on
Ellie Behnke's goal. Just before the end of the half,
Kaitlyn Kurtz scored at 44:57 off
Natalie Schisel's assist to give UWL a 4-1 advantage.
The Eagles finished with 21 shots (11 on goal) in the first half while holding the Blue Devils to two (both on goal). UWL recorded all four of the first half corner kicks.
Ellie Arndt gave UWL a 5-1 lead at 63:05 on an assist from Hernandez and
Sera Speltz finished the scoring at 71:31, assisted by Pope.
UWL finished with 33 shots in the game, including 18 on goal.
Alexis McMahon recorded five shots with two on goal.
Ainsley Allan finished with four shots while Arndt, Schisel and Kurtz each had three. Arndt and Kurtz recorded all three of their shots on goal. Sixteen different players registered a shot for UWL. The Eagles had eight corner kicks.
UW-Stout recorded five shots with four on goal. Kane finished with two shots, both on goal.
Sophia Anger earned the win for UWL, recording three saves in 60:00.
Paige Janssen played the final 30:00 in goal.
Claire Olson suffered the loss for UW-Stout, finishing with six saves in 52:00. Kristen Silenzi recorded six saves in 38:00.UWL returns
