UWL Earns Pair of Non-Conference Wins

Dubuque, Iowa - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball team earned a pair of non-conference victories Saturday on Lillis Court at Loras College (Iowa). The Eagles earned a 3-1 (25-22, 17-25, 25-22, 25-17) win over host Loras (Iowa) before a 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 28-26) victory over Edgewood College (Wis.). UWL is now 7-8 on the season. 

Loras (Iowa) raced out to a 8-3 lead in the opening set on Saturday, but UWL used an 8-2 run to take a 11-10 lead. After the Duhawks later cut it to 16-15, the Eagles scored five of the next six points for a 21-16 lead on a Madison Weisensel kill. Loras (Iowa) cut it to 24-22, but a Reese Yocum kill gave UWL the first set victory.

The second set was tied, 12-12, but Loras (Iowa) used an 8-2 run to take a 20-14 advantage. UWL could get no closer than five points the rest of the set. 

With the third set tied, 6-6, UWL scored three straight points for a 9-6 lead. The Duhawks cut it to 12-8, but a 5-1 run by the Eagles gave UWL a 17-9 lead on a Brianne Korducki kill. Loras (Iowa) went on a 10-3 run to make it 20-19 on a Olivia Smith kill. Korducki's kill and a pair of hitting errors by Loras (Iowa) gave UWL a 23-19 lead. The Duhawks cut it to 23-22, but Korducki's kill and a Loras (Iowa) hitting error gave UWL a 2-1 lead. 

Trailing 3-1 in the fourth set, UWL went on a 6-0 run. Loras (Iowa) tied the set, 12-12, when Weisensel and Gabrialla Johnson each had a kills for a 14-12 lead. The Eagles would lead the rest of the way, using a 11-5 run to end the match. 

Korducki led UWL with 17 kills while Johnson finished with 11, Weisensel nine and Yocum seven. Megan Adams recorded 20 assists, Ali Hoffman13 and Jackie Oetterer 10. The Eagles hit .124 (56-34-178). Korducki and Summer Schwenn each had 19 digs while Adams finished with 11. 

Smith led Loras (Iowa) with 12 kills as the Duhawks hit .036 (38-32-169). Sara Hoskins finished with 33 assists. Sam Stoffregen led the team with 22 digs while Hoskins totaled 19and James Keefe 15.

Versus Edgewood (Wis.), UWL scored five of the first six points in the opening set. The Eagles of Edgewood (Wis.) cut the deficit to 9-7, but five straight points by UWL made it 14-7 after an Adams' ace. Edgewood (Wis.) cut it to 20-17, but a pair of kills from Kaity Coisman gave UWL a 22-17 lead. The Eagles scored the final three points of the set.

Brianne Korducki recorded 27 kills and 28 digs.
Edgewood (Wis.) led, 9-8, in the second set when UWL scored three consecutive points for a 11-9 lead. UWL led by as many as four points before Edgewood (Wis.) came back to force a 20-20 tie on a Taylor Salmon ace. A hitting error from Edgewood (Wis.) and an ace from Korducki gave UWL a 22-20 lead. The Eagles of Edgewood (Wis.) scored the next two points to the set, but two kills from Johnson and a hitting error by Edgewood (Wis.) gave UWL the set. 

Edgewood (Wis.) scored the first four points of the third set, but UWL came right back with the next five points. The set was later tied, 21-21, when two kills from Korducki and an attack error from Edgewood (Wis.) gave UWL a 24-21 advantage. Edgewood (Wis.) took a 26-25 lead with a 5-1 run, but after a UWL timeout, the Eagles scored the final three points to complete the victory. Weisensel kill earned the final point. 

Korducki and Johnson led UWL with 10 kills each while Adams recorded 17 assists and Hoffman 15. The Eagles hit .286 (46-16-105) in the match. Adams and Sydney Fedderly each finished with 11 digs. 

Amanda Carlson led Edgewood (Wis.) with 12 kills. Salmon finished with 17 assists and Abigail Hoffman 13 as the Eagles hit .148 (37-19-22). Salmon had a team-leading 10 digs in the match.

UWL returns to action Friday, September 30 hosting 13th-ranked UW-Eau Claire at 7 p.m .
