La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball team fell 3-1 (23-25, 14-25, 25-18, 25-22) to UW-Stout Wednesday night in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles drop to 5-8 and 1-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Blue Devils improve to 8-6 overall and 1-1 in the WIAC.
UWL had its 10-match home winning streak in Mitchell Hall snapped withe the loss.
Madison Weisensel
The opening set featured 11 ties. UWL took a 22-21 lead on a
Madison Weisensel kills, but a pair of hitting errors by the Eagles gave the Blue Devils a 23-22 advantage. Anna Hansen's kill gave UW-Stout a 24-22 lead. The Blue Devils' service error made it a one-point game, but Sidney Hoverman secured the win for UW-Stout with a kill off a Kennedy Barrett assist.
UWL took a 6-3 lead in the second set before UW-Stout scored the next three points to force a 6-6 tie. The Eagles took a 9-7 lead on a
Brianne Korducki kill, but the Blue Devils went on a 5-0 run to lead 12-9 after a Hansen kill. UWL cut it to 14-11 on a Weisensel kill, but UW-Stout used a 7-1 run to take a 21-12 lead. Caroline Braun ended the set with a kill for the Blue Devils.
UW-Stout took an 8-3 lead in the third set when UWL went on a 6-3 run to cut it to 11-9. The set was tied, 14-14, when the Eagles scored five of the next two points to take a 19-16 lead on a Korducki kill. UW-Stout cut it 19-17, but three straight Blue Devils' hitting errors gave the Eagles a 22-17 advantage. UW-Stout trailed, 22-18, when UWL scored the final three points to earn the set win.
The four set was tied 10 times, including 17-17. UW-Stout used a 7-1 run to take a 23-18 lead on a Hoverman kill. Trailing 24-19,
Gabrialla Johnson and
Paige Geiser each had a kill for UWL and UW-Stout hitting error made it 24-22. The Blue Devils earned the match win after an Eagles' hitting error.
Keller Frinzi
Korducki led UWL with 16 kills while Johnson finished with 13 and Weisensel seven.
Megan Adams had a team-high 28 assists as the Eagles hit .110 (49-33-146).
Sydney Fedderly recorded 16 digs while Adams and Korducki each finished with 13 and
Summer Schwenn 12.
Hoverman led UW-Stout with 12 kills while Hansen finished with nine and Jessica Barr eight. Barrett had 31 assists as the Blue Devils hit .142 (41-21-141). Barrett also led UW-Stout with 15 digs while Staci Meyer totaled 12 on Wednesday.
UWL returns to action Saturday, September 24 with a pair of matches in Dubuque, Iowa. The Eagles face host Loras College (Iowa) at noon and Edgewood College (Wis.) at 2 p.m.
