Box Score River Falls, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball team opened its Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) season with a 3-1 (25-22, 22-25, 26-24, 25-19) win at UW-River Falls Wednesday night. The Eagles earn their first win of the year in improving to 1-7 on the season. The Falcons drop to 8-2 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
The opening set was tied eight times, including 17-17. UWL used a 4-0 run to lead 19-17 on a
Brianne Korducki ace. UW-River Falls cut the lead to 20-19, but UWL scored the next four points for a 24-19 advantage on
Megan Adams' aces. The Falcons scored the next three points to cut it to 24-22, but
Gabrialla Johnson's kill gave the Eagles the opening set win.
UWL took a 13-7 lead with a four-point run in the second set when UW-River Falls scored four consecutive points on its own to cut it to 13-11. The Eagles led, 20-15, on a
Jackie Oetterer ace, but the Falcons used a 6-0 run to take a 21-20 lead. The set was tied, 22-22, when UW-River Falls' Kameri Meredith had a pair of kills and UWL a bad set to give the Falcons the win.
UW-River Falls led by as many as four points in the third set at 7-3, but UWL scored four straight points to force a 7-7 tie. The Eagles later took a 19-15 advantage, but the Falcons took the next five points for a 20-19 lead. The set was later tied, 24-24, but Korducki secured the set for UWL with a pair of kills.
Madison Weisensel had 13 kills Wednesday night.
The Eagles never trailed in the fourth set, racing out to a 3-0 lead. UWL later led, 8-2, and 20-12. A
Megan Adams kill completed the win for UWL.
Korducki led UWL with 20 kills while hitting .432 (20-4-37).
Madison Weisensel had 13 kills and hit .333 (13-3-30) while Johnson finished with 10 kills. Adams recorded 24 assists as the Eagles hit .238 (56-20-151). Korducki had a team-high 17 digs while
Summer Schwenn finished with 16 and Adams 12. UWL had 7.0 team blocks.
Meredith led UW-River Falls with 25 kills while Katie Koerper finished with 21. Grace Boles had 21 assists and 11 digs as the Falcons hit .195 (57-24-169). Brooke Voigt had a team-high 18 digs while Meredith finished with 11.
UWL returns to action Friday, September 16 hosting Ripon College (Wis.) at 3 p.m. and Simpson College (Iowa) at 7 p.m. in the Eagles' home opener.
