Mequon, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's cross country team opened its 2022 season with a second-place finish at the Concordia University Wisconsin Ken Weidt Classic Saturday. The Eagles placed second with 37 team points while UW-Whitewater took first with 21.
Moraine Valley Community College (Ill.) was third overall with 88 points while Concordia was fourth (111) and Concordia University Chicago (Ill.) was fifth (143 points.
"Today was a designed workout for most of the team," commented UWL head coach Derek Stanley. "We were emphasizing pack running, communication and encouragement. Although the temperature was on the warm side today, our teams executed the strategy well. This meet was a good step for building our future racing and our family atmosphere."
The Eagles had four runners in the top-10 finishers including
Luke Chaffin who was fourth overall in a time of 25:52.9. In fifth-place was
Ethan Gregg in a time of 25:55.8 while
Isaac Wegner was sixth (25:56.0) and
Ben Stangel finished ninth (26:29.8).
Adam Loenser came in 13th (26:58.0),
Aidan Matthai 14th (26:58.1),
Grant Matthai 15th (26.58.1),
Jayden Zywicki 16th (26:58.7),
Joe Sullivan 17th (26.58.8),
Elias Ritzke 18th (26:59.2),
Parker Huhn 19th (26:59.2),
Michael Madoch 20th (26:59.5) and
Chris Wolfe 21st (27:02.0).

Christian Patzka of UW-Whitewater took the individual title in a time of 25:27.5. A total of 68 runners completed the race.
