Mount Vernon, Iowa - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse lacrosse team improved to 4-4 on the season with a 18-5 win at Cornell College (Iowa) Saturday afternoon. The Rams drop to 6-6 on the year.
The Eagles scored the first five goals of the game with
Lauren Schwartz getting the scoring started with 11:08 remaining in the first quarter.
Britta Nelson made it 2-0 with 10:39 left off a
Anna Reifschneider assist.
Hannah Gronowski gave UWL a 3-0 lead with 10:06 left off a
Megan Feeney assist. Nelson scored her second goal of the game with 9:25 remaining off a Gronowski assist and Schwartz also scored her second goal with 5:48 left.
Hannah Gronowski had one goal and three assists Saturday.
Cornell (Iowa) cut the lead to 5-1, but Feeney and and
Hanna Harshman scored to give UWL a 7-1 lead. The Rams cut the lead to 7-2 at the end of the first quarter.
UWL scored the first four goals of the second quarter to make it 11-2. Feeney had a pair of goals for the eagles while
Nicole Jernander and Reifschneider also scored. After Cornell (Iowa) cut the deficit to 11-3,
Abigail Steigauf scored a pair of goals for UWL to give the Eagles a 13-3 halftime advantage.
Hanna Harshman had two goals and one assist.
Schwartz and Reifschneider scored in the third quarter as UWL took a 15-4 lead after 45:00.
Madison Buttweiler,
Abigail Franta and Harshman all scored in the fourth quarter for the Eagles. Mackenzie Crouse had two assists in the quarter.
UWL finished with 33 shots, including 26 on goals. Schwartz and Feeney led the Eagles with three goals each while Reifschneider, Steigauf, Nelson and Harshman each scored twice. Feeney, Crouse and Gronowski each had three assists. Reifschneider finished with two assists. Schwartz led UWL with six shots and four ground balls.
Abigale Furlano earned the win in goal, recording 15 saves in 45:00.
Emily Hageman finished wiht two saves in 15:00.
Cornell (Iowa) had 32 shots with 22 on goal. Nina Deer had two goals for the Rams. Maddie Althoff took the loss with four saves.
UWL returns to action Tuesday, April 12 at Illinois Institute of Technology at 5 p.m.
