UWL Falls at Home to UW-River Falls

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse lacrosse team fell 24-5 to UW-River Falls Thursday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex. The Eagles drop to 7-8 on the season while the Falcons improve to 15-2.

Bailey O'Donovan put UW-River Falls on the board first, with a goal at 14:25, and the Falcons quickly went up 5-0 by 10:42, with goals from five different players. Grace Hannula scored her second goal of the game at 5:00 to go up 6-0, but Megan Feeney would stop the run at 4:19 on an assist from Hannah Gronowski.

UW-River Falls closed out the opening period by scoring three more goals, including Emma Heerey's second goal of the game at 3:15, Cassandra Hubble scoring on an assist from Emma Kohlbeck at 1:45, and Heerey setting up Kohlbeck at :43.

In the second quarter, Hannula scored another goal and Hubble added two more to bring the Falcon lead to 12-1, but Britta Nelson would score the final goal of the first half at 1:50, bringing the halftime score to 12-2.

The Eagles would score first in the third quarter, as Nicole Jernander scored on an assist from Gronowski at 12:46, and Gronowski put in a goal of her own at 12:01 to close the deficit 12-4. Sally Morris scored an unassisted goal at 10:55, which started a 10-0 run for UW-River Falls that lasted the rest of the third quarter and into the fourth, leaving the score at 22-4. The run included two goals from Heerey, Kohlbeck, and Eckers.

Feeney scored the final UWL goal of the game, on a free position shot at 4:59. O'Donovan scored her third goal of the game at 3:09, and Nicole Swanson brought the final score to 24-5 with a goal at 1:01.

Feeney led the Eagles with two goals on three shots, Gronowski added one goal and two assists, and Nelson and Jernander had one goal apiece. UWL finished with 14 shots and 16 ground balls. Abigale Furlano played all 60:00 minutes, with seven saves on 31 shots on goal.

Heerey and Hannula each led UW-River Falls with four goals, and four players added three goals. Heerey also had three assists. O'Donovan also caused four turnovers. The Falcons had 31 shots on goals and 17 ground balls. Ashley Olson played the whole game at keeper, allowing five goals on 14 shots with five saves.

UWL will return to action on Saturday, April 30 at University of Northwestern (Minn.) at 4 p.m.
