Leesburg, Fla. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse softball team extended its winning streak to four with a pair of victories Tuesday. The Eagles, 8-3 on the season, earned a 7-0 victory over Clarkson University (N.Y.) before a 6-3 win over Stockton University (N.J.).
UWL picked up its third straight shutout and fifth of the season in the victory over Clarkson (N.Y.).
Elise Weinzierl earned the victory, going 7.0 innings, allowing three hits and one walk while striking out five. Clarkson (N.Y.) advanced one runner past second base.
The Eagles took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third on
Kyra Lard's RBI single scoring
Megan Scheidt and
Emily Lyman later scored on a Clarkson (N.Y.) error. UWL added four runs in the fourth inning on two hits.
Hailey Pitzl delivered an RBI double for a 3-0 lead knocking in
Ellie Yaeger. Pitzl then scored on an error and Lard followed with a two-run home run.
Emily Knight's solo home run in the top of the fifth gave UWL a 7-0 lead.
UWL totaled five hits in the game with Lard going 2-for-4 with a run scored and three RBI. Knight, Yaeger and Pitzl had the other hits for the Eagles while Scheidt scored twice.
In the win over Stockton (N.J.), UWL took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first on Knight's three-run home run, scoring
Jordyn McCormack and
Kendra Leis. Stockton (N.J.) cut it to 3-2 in the top of the second, but UWL responded with a run in the second inning and two in the third to take a 6-2 lead. Lard had an RBI single in the second to score
Hannah Lalk while Yaeger hit a two-run home run in the third with
Hailey Jibben coming in on the play.
Stockton (N.J.) cut it to 6-3 in the fourth, but could get no closer. The Ospreys left two runners on base in the top of the seventh.
Lard and
Anna Jensen each had two hits for UWL as the Eagles finished with seven. Knight had three RBI and Yaeger two.
Remington Stark earned the win for UWL, going 3.0 innings in relief, allowing one walk while striking out four. Weinzierl earned the save, pitching 1.0 inning with three strikeouts.
Ally Eden started, pitching 3.0 innings, allowing six hits and three runs with two strikeouts.
UWL returns to action Thursday, March 17 facing SUNY Cortland at 12:45 p.m. (Central) and SUNY Fredonia at 5:15 p.m. (Central) in Clermont, Florida.
