Mankato, Minn. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse softball team split a pair of games Sunday in the Bethany Lutheran Kwik Trip Invitational at the Minnesota State University, Mankato Dome. The Eagles fell, 1-0, to The College of Saint Benedict (Minn.) before coming back with a 3-1 victory over Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.). UWL is now 2-2 on the season.
Saint Benedict (Minn.) scored the only run in its win over UWL on Tori Harren's home run to lead-off the bottom of the third.
UWL was held to three hits on the game, one each from
Kyra Lard,
Madi O'Brien and
Megan Scheidt.
Elise Weinzierl (1-1) suffered the loss, pitching 6.0 innings, allowing seven hits and one run while striking out five.
Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second on Kaylyn Leonard's single, but UWL scored twice in the top of the third for a 2-1 lead.
Kendra Leis singled with two outs for the Eagles and was replaced by pinch-runner
Emily Lyman. Madi O'Brien followed with a two-run home run to give the Eagles their first lead of the game.
The Eagles added a run in the top of the seventh. Leis singled with one out with
Megan Scheidt coming in as a pinch-runner. Scheidt stole second and scored after a Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.) throwing error on
Hailey Jibben's single to make it 3-1.
Remington Stark (1-0) picked up the win for UWL, pitching 1.1 innings, allowing two walks while striking out two.
Ally Eden earned her first save, going 2.2 innings, allowing two hits and one walk with four strikeouts.
Madi Lee started, pitching 3.0 innings, allowing four hits, one run (unearned) and two walks with one strikeout.
UWL totaled 11 hits, including two each from Leis, Jibben and
Lauren Winkler.
UWL returns to action Saturday, March 12, opening its spring trip in Florida. The Eagles face St. Joseph's College-Long Island (N.Y.) at 2:30 p.m. and The College of New Jersey at 6:45 p.m. Both games will be played in Leesburg, Florida.
