Three Players in Double Figures in Home Win over Carleton

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team snapped its two-game losing streak with a 58-47 win over Carleton College (Minn.) Tuesday night in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles improve to 9-2 on the season while the Knights drop to 2-6. 

UWL now leads the all-time series, 2-1, with Carleton (Minn.).

The Knights took a 4-2 lead on a Alana Whitfield jumper, but the Eagles used an 13-0 run to take a 15-4 lead with 3:17 left in the first quarter after Carly Coulthart's three-pointer. Carleton (Minn.) went on a 7-2 run to end the quarter to cut the deficit to 17-11. Whitfield scored all 11 of Carleton's (Minn.) points in the first quarter. Lauryn Milne, Kyah Steiner and Alana Gilles each scored for points for UWL. 

UWL led, 19-13, after an Alana Gilles' layup, but Carleton (Minn.) went on a 10-4 run to force a 23-23 tie with 2:34 remaining in the second after on Selma Vangstein's jumper. The Eagles closed the half on back-to-back three-pointers from Coulthart (1:33 left) and Kailee Meeker (:34) to take a 29-23 halftime advantage. 

The Eagles led, 35-27 with 5:32 left in the third quarter when they went on a 6-2 run to lead 41-29 with 1:36 remaining after Ali Sprangers' three-point field goal. UWL led, 45-31, after three quarters, outscoring Carleton (Minn.), 16-8, in the quarter. 

Sprangers' jumper with 3:02 remaining gave UWL's its largest lead of the game at 56-40. Carleton (Minn.) cut the lead to 58-47 with 1:25 left, but the Knights could get no closer the rest of the game.

UWL shot 35.5% from the field Tuesday, including 20.8% (five-of-24) from three-point range, and 75.0% (nine-of-12) at the free throw line. Milne led three players in double figures with 12 points while also adding three steals. Steiner finished with 11 points and nine rebounds while Gilles recorded a double-double with 10 points and game-high 10 rebounds.

Carleton (Minn.) shot 29.8% from the field, including 11.1% (one-of-nine) from three-point range, and 75.0% (12-of-16) at the line. Whitfield led the Knights with 18 points while Jasmine Choi finished with eight. Emma Henry led Carleton (Minn.) with eight rebounds. 

UWL returns to action Wednesday, December 28 at Chapman University (Calif.) at 4 p.m.
