La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team improved to 8-0 on the season with a 65-28 win over Milwaukee School of Engineering (Wis.) Saturday afternoon in the Gundersen Hotel & Suites Thanksgiving Classic. The Raiders drop to 0-5 on the season.
Carly Coulthart had nine points and four rebounds.
UWL head coach
Karen Middleton earned her 100th career victory as the Eagles' head coach with Saturday's win. She is now 100-51 in her seventh season as UWL.
It marks UWL's first 8-0 start since winning its first 11 games in 2018-19. The Eagles now lead the Raiders, 4-0, in the all-time series.
UWL never trailed in Saturday's win, scoring the first nine points of the game as
Lauryn Milne hit a pair of three-point field goals and
Carly Coulthart connected for one three-pointer. MSOE (Wis.) cut the lead to 9-4 when UWL went on a 12-0 run to end the quarter.
The Eagles scored the first six points of the second quarter to complete their 18-0 run to lead 27-4. UWL took its largest lead of the first half on
Gabby Ritchie's layup with 1:16 left to take a 32-8 halftime advantage.
UWL led, 49-15, at the end of the third quarter. The Eagles led by as many as 43 points in the fourth quarter.
Milne led UWL with 12 points and eight rebounds.
Aaliyah McMillan finished with 11 points while
Carly Coulthart and
Kailee Meeker each had nine.
Kyah Steiner tied Milne with eight rebounds. Eleven different players scored for UWL.
Milne and Meeker were named to the all-tournament team.
The Eagles shot 40.0% from the field, including 30.0% (nine-of-30) from three-point range, and 80.0% (12-of-15) at the free throw line.
Kailee Meeker had nine points and three assists.
Ella Mensen led MSOE (Wis.) with seven points and six rebounds. The Raiders shot 19.6% from the field, including 14.3% (two-of-14) from three-point range, and 75.0% (six-of-eight) at the line.
UWL returns to action Wednesday, November 30 hosting UW-Whitewater in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) opener at 7 p.m. in Mitchell Hall.
