Box Score De Pere, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team improved to 3-0 on the season with a 85-55 victory over Lawrence University (Wis.) Saturday night in the St. Norbert College (Wis.) Nicole National Bank Tip-Off Tournament. The Vikings drop to 1-2 on the season.
Lawrence (Wis.) took an 11-9 lead on a Lyida Lueck layup with 6:07 left in the first quarter, but UWL went on a 9-0 run to lead 18-11 on
Alana Gilles' layup with 2:22 remaining. The Eagles led, 23-19, after the first quarter.Â
After the Vikings cut the lead to 26-21 with 9:12 left in the second quarter, the Eagles used a 7-0 run to take a 33-21 advantage with 5:25 left on
Lauryn Milne's layup. Caroline Sharpe cut the deficit to 33-23, but back-to-back three-pointers from Ali Sprangers and
Carly Coulthart gave UWL a 39-23 lead. The Eagles led, 49-33, at halftime.Â
Lawrence (Wis.) cut the deficit to 57-38 with 6:13 left in the third quarter when UWL went on a 11-0 run take a 68-38 lead with 1:11 remaining. The Eagles led, 68-41 after the third quarter after outscoring the Vikings, 19-6 in the period.Â
The Vikings could get no closer than 25 points in the fourth quarter.Â
UWL shot 47.2% from the field, including 41.4% (12-of-29) from three-point range, and 83.3% (five-of-six) at the free throw line. Coulthart led the Eagles with 15 points, finishing five-of-six from three-point range. Milne finished with 11 points and Madisyn Kilboten 10.
Kyah Steiner had a game-high eight rebounds.
Milne and Coulthart were both named to the all-tournament team.Â
Lawrence (Wis.) shot 34.6% from the field, including 25.0% (four-of-16) from three-point range, and 71.4% (15-of-21) at the line. Maggie Culver led the Vikings with 16 points.
UWL returns to action Wednesday, November 16 at Ripon College (Wis.) at 7 p.m.Â
