Northfield, Minn. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's cross country placed second at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III North Regional title Saturday afternoon at the St. Olaf College (Minn.) Cross Country Trails. The Eagles finished with 83 team points while UW-Whitewater won the team title with 73.
Isaac Wegner and Ethan Gregg led UWL to a second-place finish.
By virtue of its first and second-place finishes, UW-Whitewater and UWL advance to the NCAA Division III Championships scheduled for Saturday, November 19 in Lansing, Michigan.
St. Olaf, Minn. placed third (108 points) in Saturday's NCAA III Regional while UW-Stout was fourth (117) followed by UW-Eau Claire (133), UW-Oshkosh (177), St. John's (Minn.) (224), Carthage (Wis.) (253), Carleton (Minn.) and UW-Stevens Point (267) to round-out the top-10. A total of 29 teams competed.
UWL's
Ethan Gregg placed second overall with a time of 24:18.59 on the 8,000-meter course. The Eagles'
Isaac Wegner finished fourth (24:29.65),
Corey Fairchild 14th (24:59.01) and
Parker Huhn 26th (25:24.38).
Elias Ritzke was 36th (25:35.14) while
Luke Chaffin finished 37th (25:36.13) and
Reed Anderson 52nd (25:55.19).
Christian Patzka of UW-Whitewater won the individual title (24:09.15). A total of 120 runners finished the race. The top-35 runners earn All-Region honors.
UWL returns to action Saturday, November 19 at the NCAA III Championships at Forest Akers Golf Course in Lansing, Michigan starting at 10 a.m.
