La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's swimming & diving team opened its 2022-23 home season with a 135-101 victory over Luther College (Iowa) Friday night in Richard L. Pein Natatorium. The Eagles improve to 1-1 in duals.
UWL won eight events on Friday, including sweeping the relays.
Ming Ong, Mitchel Johnson, Caleb Jondle and
Blake Nelson won the 200 medley relay (1:38.39) with Jonah Elfers,
Andrew Perrin, Jesse Hammes and
Will Quackenbush took the 400 freestyle relay (3:17.84).
The Eagles won six individual titles.
Tony McNiff won the three-meter diving (290.75 points) while also finishing second (256.28) in the one-meter.
Quackenbush took the 1,000 freestyle (10:26.96),
Nicholas Litterer the 50 freestyle (21.91),
Ming Ong the 200 I.M. (2:05.20), Nelson the 100 freestyle (48.28) and Johnson the 100 breaststroke (1:00.99).
In other top-three finishes,
Connor Cleveland was second in the 50 freestyle (22.47) and 100 backstroke (56.39) while Jondle was second in the 100 butterfly (54.90) and third in the 100 backstroke (57.86).
Jacob Brehmer finished second (2:05.98) and Johnson third (2:06.29) in the 200 I.M.
Reid Graham placed second (1:51.80) in the 200 freestyle with Hammes third (22.73) in the 50 freestyle, Quackenbush third (56.99) in the 100 butterfly and
Owen Montheard third (5:30.22) in the 500 freestyle.
UWL's
Vance Winter finished third (226.43) in the one-meter diving with
Evan Zimdars third (255.00) in the three-meter.
UWL returns to action Saturday, November 12 hosting UW-Whitewater with diving starting at 9 a.m.
