Volleyball Falls to Tenth-Ranked UW-Whitewater

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-22, 25-13, 25-23) to nationally ranked UW-Whitewater Wednesday night in Mitchell Hall. The loss drops the Eagles to 10-15 overall and 1-5 in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action while the Warhawks, ranked 10th on this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association Top-25 poll, improve to 22-5 overall and 6-0 in conference play.

Trailing 6-5 in the first set, the Eagles got kills from Madison Weisensel and Brianne Korducki followed by a service ace from Sydney Fedderly to take an 8-6 lead. UWL would extend that lead to 12-9 before UWW scored six of the next eight points to lead 15-14. The two teams would trade points until the score was tied at 21. The Warhawks then recorded four straight kills including two from Erin McNeil to take the first set 25-22. 

With the score tied 6-6 in the second set, UWW went on a 4-0 run to lead 10-6. After UWL scored the next two points (10-8) they would not get any closer the rest of the way. The Warhawks used a 6-0 run to break open the set and lead 20-11. UWL struggled offensively in the second set as they hit -.038 (5, 6, 26) as a team.

The third set saw the Eagles take an early 4-2 lead with Korducki highlighting the start with a kill and a service ace. After the Warhawks took an 8-7 lead, UWL scored five straight points to take a 12-8 lead. Two kills by Korducki and two service aces from Ella Luoma sparked the five point run for the Eagles. UWL extended their lead to 16-10 before UWW scored nine of the next 11 points to take a 19-18 lead. The Warhawks continued to pull away as they took a 24-19 lead. UWL did not go away quietly though as they got two more service aces from Luoma to cut their deficit to 24-23. A kill by Allyson Warburton for the Warhawks would end the Eagle's rally. 

As a team, the Eagles finished the match hitting .147 (30-15-102). Gabrialla Johnson led the Eagles with nine kills while Korducki finished with eight. Megan Adams and Jackie Oetterer split setting duties for the Eagles with Adams finishing with 14 assists and Oetterer with 10. Oetterer led the Eagles with 10 digs while Fedderly added nine and Korducki eight. 

UW-Whitewater finished hitting .275 (44-14-109) with Erin McNeil leading them with 14 kills. KellyAnn Sotiros finished 31 assists and Morgan Jensen had 13 digs. 

UWL returns to action on Friday when they travel to Stevens Point, Wis. to play Wheaton College (Ill.) at 3 p.m.
