West Salem, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's cross country team captured the 41st Annual Jim Drews Invitational Saturday afternoon at Maple Grove Venues, LLC. The Eagles won their 11th Drews title in school history with 42 team points.
Iowa Central Community College was second with 49 points followed by UW-Oshkosh third (147), Saint John's University (Minn.) fourth (159) and Paradise Valley Community College (Ariz.) fifth (174). UW-Whitewater was sixth (194) with Luther College, Iowa (200), UW-Platteville (265), Minnesota Running Club (265) and St. Olaf College, Minn. (282) to round-out the top-10. A total of 28 teams competed.
UWL had five runners in the top-13 in helping lead it to the team title.
Isaac Wegner was fifth overall with at ime of 24:47.7 on the 8,000-meter course.
Corey Fairchild was sixth (24:47.8) and
Ethan Gregg seventh (24:48.6). The Eagles'
Parker Huhn finished 11th (24:49.6) with
Aidan Matthai 13th (25:15.4).
Nine other runners placed in the top-50 for UWL, including

Aspel Kiprob of Iowa Central won the individual title (24:25.9). A total of 424 runners completed the race.
UWL is fifth in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division III rankings released October 12.
Drews won four Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) titles in cross country (1970-73). He also earned three National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) All-America accolades, placing sixth in 1971, ninth in 1972 and 13th in 1973. Drews was selected to the All-WIAC Team in 2011 and to the WIAC Hall of Fame in 2018.
UWL returns to action Friday, October 21 at the Luther College (Iowa) Dual. The Eagles host the WIAC Championships Saturday, October 29 at Maple Grove Venues, LLC.
