Box Score Platteville, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball team fell 3-2 (20-25, 22-25, 25-20, 25-18, 15-10) at UW-Platteville Friday night in Williams Fieldhouse. The Eagles drop to 9-13 overall and 1-4 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Pioneers move to 17-5 overall and 2-3 in the conference.
UWL took an 11-6 lead in the opening set with a 5-0 run. The Pioneers later cut the lead to 17-15, but back-to-back kills from
Brianne Korducki and
Paige Geiser gave the Eagles a 19-15 advantage. After a UW-Platteville timeout. Korducki added another kill and Geiser and
Hailey Liepold had block assists for a 21-15 lead. The Pioneers scored the next four points to cut the deficit to 21-19. Korducki's kill made it 22-19, but a Kierney McDonald kill for UW-Platteville cut it to 22-20.
Gabrialla Johnson recorded a kill, UW-Platteville had a hitting error and
Madison Weisensel finished the set with a kill.
UWL never trailed in the second set, racing out o a 7-3 lead. The Eagles later took a 20-16 lead on a Liepold kill, but the Pioneers went on a 3-0 run to cut the lead to 20-19. The Eagles took a 22-19 advantage after a UW-Platteville service error and a
Megan Adams' ace. UW-Platteville could get no closer than two points the rest of the set.
UW-Platteville led by six at 11-5 in the third set and later made it 14-9. After UWL cut it to 14-11, UW-Platteville scored five consecutive points for a 19-11 lead. UWL could get no closer than four points the rest of the set.
The fourth set was tied six times, including 16-16, after a Liepold kill. UWL took a 17-16 lead on a
Kaity Coisman ace, but UW-Platteville went on a 9-1 run to end the set.
Weisensel's kill tied the fifth set, 3-3. Emma Carlson had a kill for UW-Platteville and a UWL hitting error made it 5-3. The Pioneers would not trail the rest of the set. Johnson's kills cut it to 5-4, but UW-Platteville went on a 6-1 run to lead 11-5. UWL cut it to 11-7, but could get no closer the rest of the set.
Korducki led UWL with 15 kills while Johnson finished with 12. Adams recorded 28 assists and
Jackie Oetterer 13 as the Eagles hit .199 (54-25-146). Adams (13 digs) and Korducki (11) each recorded a double-double.
Summer Schwenn had 11 digs.
Emma Carlson led UW-Platteville, finishing with 30 kills and a .491 (30-4-53) hitting percentage. McDonald added 15 kills. Sam Rossetti finished with 50 assists as the Pioneers hit .261 (64-22-161). Bri Gartner had a team-high 14 digs with Rossetti totaling 13.
UWL returns to action Saturday, October 15 with a pair of matches in Platteville. UWL plays Augustana College (Ill.) at 11 a.m. and Carthage College (Wis.) at 1 p.m.
