La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse gymnastics team opened its 2021-22 season with a dual victory over Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) Friday night in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles earned a 185.650 to 181.975 win.
Sara Beck
UWL recorded 46.725 on the vault, 46.350 on the uneven parallel bars, 46.375 on the balance beam and 46.200 on the floor exercise.
The Eagles had a pair of individual event winners Friday night as
Rachel Chesley captured the vault (9.650) and
Olivia Opheim the floor exercise (9.450). Chesley was also fourth on the floor exercise (9.350) and tied for sixth on the uneven parallel bars (8.950).
Cate Sandvik
Cate Sandvik recorded three top-six finishes, including tied for second on the balance beam (9.400) with teammate
Jordyn Faust. Sandvik was also fifth on the uneven parallel bars (9.050) and floor exercise (9.325).
Madi Vanderpool and
Alex Wood each had two top-six places Friday. Vanderpool was second on the vault (9.475) and third on the uneven parallel bars (9.450) while Wood finished third on the vault (9.400) and fourth on the balance beam (9.275).
UWL's
Kerrie Legault finished second (9.500) and
Sara Beck fourth (9.400) on the uneven parallel bars while Marise Zepeda placed fifth (9.250) on the balance beam.
UWL returns to action Saturday, January 15 at Lindenwood University (Mo.) at 6 p.m.
