La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's basketball team, ranked 10th on this week's D3hoops.com Top-25 Poll, earned a 95-60 victory over Bethel University (Minn.) Saturday afternoon in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles improve to 16-3 on the season while the Royals drop to 8-8.
Zach Doely's layup gave Bethel (Minn.) a 2-0 lead, but UWL went on a 16-0 run, highlighted by
Henry Noone making three consecutive three-point attempts. The Eagles opened the game going six-of-seven from the field with Noone scoring nine points. Bethel (Minn.) cut the lead to 16-7 on three free throws from Tommy Jensen with 14:23 remaining in the first half, but the Royals would get no closer than nine points the rest of the game.
Leading 20-11, UWL used a 13-2 run to make it 33-13 with 8:56 left on
Wyatt Cook's three-point play. The Eagles led by as many as 33 points in the first half before taking a 57-27 halftime advantage. UWL shot 73.3% (22-of-30) from the field in the opening half, including 63.6% (seven-of-11) from three-point range. The Eagles' 57 first half points were the most since finishing with 58 versus UW-River Falls on February 16, 2011.
Craig Steele tied his career-high with 15 points.
UWL led by as many as 41 points in the second half at 84-43 with 9:59 remaining after
Craig Steele's four-point play.
UWL shot 58.1% (36-of-62) from the field Saturday, including 48.1% (13-of-27) from three-point range, and 83.3% (10-of-12) at the free throw line. The 58.1% shooting is the team's second-highest total of the season after finishing at 58.7% (27-of-46) in a 68-61 victory at Trine University (Ind.) December 11.
The Eagles' 95 points are the most since scoring 94 in a victory (94-62) over UW-Stout February 12, 2020.
Twelve different players scored for UWL with Noone finishing with a career-high 20 points. He went seven-of-11 from the field, including six-of-10 from three-point range. Cook and Steele each finished with 15 points Saturday while
Ethan Anderson totaled 11. Steele tied his career-high in points.
Sean Suchomel had a team-high eight rebounds, five assists and two blocks while tying for the team lead with two steals.
Bethel (Minn.) shot 43.1% from the field, including 29.2% (seven-of-24) from three-point range, and 69.2% (nine-of-13) at the line. Jaren Tschetter and Myles Coleman led the Royals with nine points each.
UWL returns to action Wednesday, February 2 hosting UW-Whitewater at 7 p.m.
