Menomonie, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball team opened its Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) season with a 3-1 (25-19, 13-25, 25-21, 25-14) victory at UW-Stout Wednesday night at Johnson Fieldhouse. The Eagles, receiving votes on this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top-25 Poll, improve to 8-1 overall. The Blue Devils, also playing their conference opener, drops to 7-4.
UW-Stout led 15-12, when UWL went on a 6-1 run to lead 18-16. The Blue Devils cut the lead to 18-17, but the Eagles finished the set with a 7-2 run. UW-Stout led 9-7 in the second set when it went on a 10-1 run to lead 19-8. The Blue Devils went on to earn the 25-13 victory.

The Eagles trailed the Blue Devils, 8-5, in the third set, but a 6-0 run gave UWL a 11-8 advantage.
Sydney Fedderly had two kills in the run while
Emma Lawrence and
Brianne Korducki each had one. UW-Stout cut it 15-14, but four straight points gave UWL a 19-14 lead. The Blue Devils could get no closer than two points the rest of the set.
UWL raced out to a 6-2 lead in the fourth set and UW-Stout could get no closer than three points the rest of the set.
Lawrence led UWL with 18 kills while Fedderly finished with 11 while hitting .526 (11-1-19). Korducki,
Liz Lansink and
Gabrialla Johnson each had six kills. UWL hit .150 overall, including .419 (15-2-31) in the fourth and final set.
Megan Adams led the Eagles with 23 assists with
Jackie Oetterer finishing with 21.
Fedderly and
Sophie Quelle led UWL with 12 digs each while Lawrence finished with 11 and Adams 10. The Eagles totaled 4.0 team blocks.
Sidney Hoverman led UW-Stout with 15 kills. The Blue Devils hit .126 for the match. Lexie Nelson recorded 30 assists and 10 digs. Staci Meyer led UW-Stout with 14 digs while Elise Banitt finished with 13. UW-Stout totaled 4.0 team blocks.
UWL returns to action Friday, September 17 with its home opener in the UWL Invitational. The Eagles host Simpson College (Iowa) at 3 p.m. and Elmhurst College (Ill.) at 7 p.m. in Mitchell Hall.
