UWL Earns 30th Straight WIAC Outdoor Title

 The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's track & field team won its 30th consecutive Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Outdoor Championship (presented by Culver's) Saturday at David A. Smith Stadium at Ramer Field at UW-River Falls. 
 
The Eagles finished with 185.0 team points while UW-Whitewater was second with 130.0 and UW-Oshkosh third with 122.5.  UW-Eau Claire finished fourth (110.5) followed by UW-Stout (106.5), UW-Stevens Point (98.5), UW-Platteville (50.0) and UW-River Falls (15.0). 

It is UWL's league record 56th outdoor title in school history. 
 
UWL won four individual titles on the track Saturday, including Seth Holden who captured the 100 (10.59) and 200 (21.48) meter dash. He is the 18th sprinter in WIAC history to sweep the 100 and 200-meter dashes at the same championships, including the sixth for UWL. Reggie Rabb (1982), David Coates (1992), Danny Tutskey (2000), Alex Rooker (2008) and Ernest Winters (2016) have also accomplished the feat. Holden is the first to win both events since Parker Witt of UW-Whitewater in 2017.  Holden is the first UWL sprinter to capture the 100-meter dash since Winters in 2018 and the first to win the 200-meter dash since Winters in 2016.

The Eagles' Dillon Murman took the 110-meter hurdles (14.64) on Saturday while Jake Sullivan won the 400-meter dash (48.00). Murman is the first UWL hurdler to win the event since Luke Rohloff in 2017 while Sullivan became the first Eagle to capture the 400-meter dash since Ross Denman in 2017.

 UWL's 4x100-meter relay of Holden, Justin Kotarak, Spencer Reichart and Tyler Harris also captured the league title (41.19) on Saturday. The Eagles last won the event in 2018. Team Shot

Other top finishes on the track Saturday for UWL included, Josh Koenecke fourth (10.76), Troy DeBruin fifth (10.77) and Reichart sixth (10.85) in the 100-meter dash. DeBruin also placed third (21.83) in the 200-meter dash while Koenecke was fourth (21.86) and Reichart placed seventh (22.14). 
 
In the 400-meter dash, Caden Pearce was third (48.46) while Tyler Kisting was fifth (1:55.78) in the 800-meter run. The Eagles' Michael Madoch finished fifth in the 1,500-meter run (3:56.16) while Isaac Wegner placed sixth (15:05.21) in the 5,000-meter run. 
 
Carson Reilly was third (15.07) in the 110-meter hurdles with Andrew Pischke third (54.87) in the 400-meter hurdles. 
 
The 4x400-meter relay team of Addison Hill, Payton Flood, Sullivan and Kotarak finished fourth (3:19.06). 
 
UWL's Gunnar Block finished fifth (5,356 points) in the decathlon on Saturday. The event concluded with the 110-meter hurdles, discus throw, pole vault, javelin throw and 1,500-meter run on Saturday. Friday's events included the 100-meter dash, long jump, shot put, high jump and 400-meter dash.
 
In Saturday's field events, Evan Daley was third in the high jump (6-8) while Nick Crary took fourth (47-8 1/2) in the triple jump. Bryce Sitko placed seventh in the discus throw (159-2).
 
UWL returns to action Friday, May 14 hosting the Eagle Meet at 3 p.m. at Roger Harring Stadium at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex.
