La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse softball team swept a non-conference doubleheader with UW-Eau Claire Tuesday afternoon at North Campus Field. The Eagles won the opener, 6-3, and the nightcap, 8-5. UWL improves to 13-12 on the season while UW-Eau Claire drops to 21-15.
UWL took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on
Sabrina Scardamaglia's lead-off home run in the opener. UW-Eau Claire tied it in the top of the second on Katelyn Yute's solo home run.
Kendra Leis had three hits and three RBI in the doubleheader.
The Eagles took a 3-1 lead in the fourth on pinch-hitter

Allison Oster. The Blugolds cut it to 3-2 in the fifth on Mikayla McEnery's RBI ground out, but the Eagles added to their lead with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Scardamaglia scored on
Jordyn McCormack's single to make it 4-2 and
Kendra Leis delivered a two-run home run scoring
Kenzie Goethel.
UW-Eau Claire scored in the top of the sixth with Ellie Decker coming in on Sadie Erickson's single.
Maddie Muelken (7-6) picked up the victory for UWL, going 6.0 innings, allowing six hits and three runs while striking out two.
Elise Weinzierl earned her fourth save of the year, pitching 1.0 inning with one strikeout. The Eagles had eight hits with Scardamaglia and Leis each going 2-for-3 with a home run. Scardamaglia scored twice.
Maddie Muelken earned the win in the opener.
Madi Zerr (7-6) suffered the loss for UW-Eau Claire, pitching 4.1 innings, allowing seven hits, six runs and one walk with five strikeouts. The Blugolds had six hits with Erickson going 2-for-3 and an RBI.
UWL took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first in the nightcap. Scardamaglia opened the frame with a single and stole second with one out. She advanced to third on McCormack's single and scored on a Leis' sacrifice bunt to make it 1-0.
Sydne Shattuck followed with an RBI single to score McCormack and
Nicole Trussoni's double knocked in Shattuck for a 3-0 lead. The Eagles made it 4-0 in the bottom of the second on Scardamaglia's solo home run.

UW-Eau Claire cut the deficit to 4-2 in the top of the third as McEnery and Shaelyn Talley scored on Abbey Place's two-out two-run single. The Blugolds took the lead with three unearned runs, all coming with two outs, in the top of the fourth. Bailee Sillman scored on a UWL fielding error to make it 4-3 and Megan Maruna's triple knocked in McEnery and Zerr to give UW-Eau Claire a 5-4 lead.
UWL tied the game in the bottom of the fifth.
Katie Block doubled with two outs and scored on McCormack's single.
The Blugolds had the go-ahead run at second base with two outs in the top of the seventh, but
Megan Scheidt made a diving catch on Yute's fly ball to right field to end the inning.
Scardamaglia singled to start the bottom of the seventh and stole second with two outs. Leis was walked to put runners and first and second and Shattuck delivered the game-winning walk-off three-run home run.
Weinzierl (1-4) earned the victory, pitching 3.1 innings, allowing four hits with one strikeout. Shattuck started, going 3.2 innings, allowing six hits and five runs (two earned) with four strikeouts. The Eagles finished with 11 hits as Scardamaglia going 3-for-4 with three runs and an RBI. McCormack, Shattuck and
Nicole Trussoni each had two hits. Shattuck finished with two runs and four RBI.
Block had her school record 21-game hitting streak snapped in the opener.
Julie Counard (1-1) took the loss for UW-Eau Claire, going 2.0 innings in relief. She allowed three hits, thee runs and two walks. Abbey Cook started, pitching 4.2 innings, allowing eight hits and five runs with four strikeouts. The Blugolds recorded 10 hits with Place going 3-for-4 with two RBI. Maruna and Maria Back each had two hits with Maruna finishing with two RBI. McEnery scored twice.
UWL wraps up its regular season hosting UW-Oshkosh on Friday, May 7 in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. at North Campus Field.
