Shattuck Throws Complete-Game Shutout to Earn Split

Whitewater, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse softball team split its Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) doubleheader at UW-Whitewater Friday afternoon. The Warhawks won the opener, 6-2, before the Eagles came back to take the nightcap, 1-0.  UWL is now 9-8 overall and 5-4 in the WIAC while UW-Whitewater is 16-8 overall and 6-4 in the conference. 

UWL took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second in the opener as Allison Oster scored on a Emily Knight single. UW-Whitewater tied the game in the bottom of the inning on Delaney Becker's sacrifice fly to score Nikki Mikosz. 

The Warhawks took a 4-1 lead with three runs in the bottom of the third, highlighted by a two-run home by Mikosz. The Eagles cut the deficit to 4-2 in the fourth on Oster's home run.  UW-Whitewater scored twice in the bottom of the inning on a Krista Sbarra RBI single and Kennedy Cox run-scoring double.

Kendra Leis had four hits in Friday's doubleheader.
Maddie Muelken (4-6) suffered the loss for UWL, going 6.0 innings, allowing nine hits, six runs and one walk with one strikeout. The Eagles had six hits as Oster finished 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. 

Katie Cleveland (6-3) picked up the victory, pitching 4.1 innings, allowing six hits, two runs and one walk with one strikeout. Marissa Adams earned her second save, going 2.2 innings with two strikeouts. The Warhawks finished with nine hits with Vera Pflugradt going 3-for-4 with a run scored. 

Sydne Shattuck (5-1) earned the complete-game victory in the nightcap for UWL. She went 7.0 innings, allowing three hits and two walks while striking out four.  The Eagles scored the only run of the game in the top of the first. Katie Block reached on a one-out bunt single and stole second with two outs. She then scored on a Kendra Leis single. 

UWL totaled nine hits in the nightcap as Leis went 3-for-3 with an RBI. 

Rhiann Dick (5-4) suffered the loss for UW-Whitewater, going 5.0 innings, allowing eight hits and one run while striking out seven. The Warhawks were held to three hits in the nightcap. 

The teams will play a non-conference doubleheader Sunday, April 25 at 1 p.m. at North Campus Field.
