La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's track & field opened its 2021 outdoor season winning the five-team UWL Great River Rust Buster Saturday at Roger Harring Stadium at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex. The Eagles finished with 121.0 team points with UW-Stout placing second with 90.0.
UW-Superior placed third (42.0) followed by Martin Luther College, Minn. (40.0) and Minnesota State University, Mankato (29.0).
UWL recorded eight individual first-place finishes on Saturday, including six on the track.
Josh Koenecke won the 100-meter dash (10.79),
Caden Pearce the 200-meter dash (22.17) and
Tyler Kisting the 1,500-meter run (3:55.59).
Corey Fairchild captured the 3,000-metre steeplechase (9:44.69) with
Dillon Murman winning the 110-meter hurdles (14.83) and
Andrew Pischke the 400-meter hurdles (57.91).
In Saturday's field events, the Eagles'
Matt Haynes won the high jump (6-0) and
Daniel Graf the shot put (52-4 3/4) in the shot put.
Other top finishers on the track included Holden placing second (10.80), DeBruin third (11.03) and Reichart (11.03) fourth in the 100-meter dash while
Carson Reilly was second (15.17) and
Ben Jones fourth (16.26) in the 110-meter hurdles.
Alejandro Trinidad-Echeva took second (1:01.55) in the 400-meter hurdles.
Jake Sullivan finished third (22.42) in the 200-meter dash while
Addison Hill was fourth (22.52). In the 1,500-meter run
Brian Hansford was second (4:02.46),
Parker Huhn third (4:02.68) and
Isaac Wegner fourth (4:03.72).
Elias Ritzke finished second (9:46.45) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with
Ethan Thompson third (9:46.49) and
Dirk Lueck fourth (9:58.97).
In Saturday's field events,
Tommy Knoche placed second (15-3) in the pole vault with Larson third (14-9) and
Kaleb Schuster fourth (14-3 1/4).
The Eagles'
Michael Lampman placed second (151-0) in the discus throw with
Aiden Williams finishing second (163-8) in the hammer throw. Joe Schmida finished second (172-6) and
Alec Morrison third (160-8) in javelin throw for UWL.
UWL returns to action Friday, April 2 hosting the UW-La Crosse Tribute Triangular.
