Menomonie, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's basketball team earned a 84-62 victory at UW-Stout Wednesday night in Johnson Fieldhouse. The Eagles improve to 4-1 overall and 4-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Blue Devils drop to 1-4 overall and 1-4 in the WIAC.
UW-Stout took its only lead of the game on Tyreese Alexander's two free throws with 19:34 left in the first half. UWL's
Ethan Anderson hit a three-pointer to make it 3-2. After the Blue Devils cut the lead to 5-4, the Eagles used a 12-2 run to lead 17-6 with 13:36 remaining after a
Craig Steele three-point field goal. Demetri Martin's layup for UW-Stout with 11:08 left cut the deficit to 19-11, but UWL went on a 17-4 run to lead 36-15 after an Anderson jumper with 4:57 remaining. The Eagles led, 47-28, at halftime.
UWL led by 21 points early in the second half before UW-Stout cut the lead to 66-56 with 8:34 left on a Lovell Williams three-pointer. The Eagles then went on a 12-2 run to lead 78-58 with 4:19 remaining after a
Wyatt Cook three-pointer and
Seth Anderson layup. UWL led by as many as 24 points in the second half.
UWL shot a season-high 54.9% from the field, including 47.4% (nine-of-19) from three-point range, and season-high 82.6% (19-of-23) at the free throw line. Cook led three players in double figures with 26 points Wednesday, finishing eight-of-11 from the field, including four-of-five from three-point range. He was six-of-seven at the line.
Ethan Anderson finished with 22 points and team-high seven rebounds and three steals.
Seth Anderson totaled 16 points, three rebounds and three assists while going seven-of-12 from the field and two-of-three at the free throw line.
UW-Stout shot 41.3% from the field, including 33.3% (six-of-18) from three-point range, and 66.7% (four-of-six) at the line. Alexander led the Blue Devils with 18 points while Armani Tinsley finished with 10 points and six rebounds.
The teams will face off against each other Friday, February 19 at UWL at 7 p.m.
