La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's basketball team earned a 83-52 victory over UW-River Falls Friday night in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles improve to 3-1 overall and 3-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Falcons fall to 2-2 overall and 2-2 in the WIAC.
UW-River Falls earned a 67-66 home victory over UWL February 10.
Wyatt Cook finished with 14 points Friday.
UWL never trailed in the game as it took a 6-0 lead on back-to-back three-pointers from
Wyatt Cook. UW-River Falls cut the lead to 6-5, but an
Ethan Anderson three-point basket gave UWL a 9-5 lead and UW-River Falls would get no closer than two points the rest of the game.
Craig Steele hit a pair of three-point field goals to give UWL a 15-7 advantage with 11:43 remaining in the first half.
Alex Ohde's layup for UW-River Falls cut the deficit to 15-9, but UWL went on a 13-4 run to lead 28-13 with 5:07 left on another Steele three-pointer. The Falcons cut the halftime lead to 38-27.
UWL opened the second half scoring the first nine points to lead 47-27 with 15:54 left on Cook's three-point field goal. UW-River Falls could get no closer than 17 points the rest of the game as UWL led by as many as 36.
UWL shot 47.6% from the field, including 59.1% (13-of-22) from three-point range, and 66.7% (10-of-15) at the free throw line. Five players scored in double figures for the Eagles.
Ethan Anderson and Steele led with 15 points each while Anderson also added six rebounds to tie for the team lead with
Sean Suchomel and
Seth Anderson. Steele's 15 points is a career-high. Cook finished with 14 points with four rebounds, three assists and two steals. Suchomel and
Seth Anderson each finished with 10 points and six rebounds.
UW-River Falls shot 31.5% from the field, including 35.0% (seven-of-20) from three-point range, and 68.8% (11-of-16) at the line. Ohde led the Falcons with 18 points and 11 rebounds.
UWL returns to action Wednesday, February 17 at UW-Stout at 7 p.m.
