UWL Earns Victory over Martin Luther College

Wauwatosa, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team defeated Martin Luther College (Minn.), 64-27, Saturday afternoon in the Wisconsin Lutheran College Paul F. Knueppel Classic. The Eagles improve to 3-0 on the season while the Knights fall to 1-3.
 
Emma Gamoke hit a three-pointer on the Eagles opening possession to spark a 14-3 run to start the game. Gamoke scored eight of the Eagles' first 14 points. UWL led Martin Luther (Minn.), 18-7 at the end of the first period. The Eagles outscored the Knights, 16-10, in the second period to lead 34-17 at the half. Nikki Dienberg and Gamoke each scored eight points in the first half to lead the Eagles.
 
UWL opened the third period with a 14-4 run to take a 48-21 lead. The Eagles would only allow the Knights to score seven points in the third period as they led 54-24 at the end of the quarter. The Knights managed only score three points in the fourth quarter as the Eagles took their largest lead of the game at 63-26.
 
UWL finished the game shooting 34.3% (23-67) from the floor, including 20.8% (five-of-24) from three-point range, and 72.2% (13-18) at the free throw line. UWL out-rebounded Martin Luther (Minn.), 55-34.

The Eagles' defense held the Knights to 19.2% (10-of-52) shooting from the floor, including 20.8% (five-of-24) from three-point range. Martin Luther (Minn.) shot 25.0% (two-of-eight) at the line.  
 
Gamoke led the Eagles with 13 points while Paige Schumann added nine points and Alana Gilles and Nikki Dienberg each chipped in with eight. UWL had seven players finish with at least five rebounds led by Alivia Arnebeck who had six.

Jordyn Heckendorf led Martin Luther (Minn.) with eight points and six rebounds.

Schumann and Dienberg were two of six players named to the all-tournament team.

UWL returns to action Wednesday, November 17 hosting Coe College (Iowa) its home opener at 6 p.m.
