UWL Earns Shutout over UW-Whitewater in Regular-Season Finale

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team wrapped up its regular season with a 3-0 win over UW-Whitewater Saturday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex.  The Eagles improve to 13-3-2 overall and 6-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Warhawks drop to 12-6 overall and 3-3 in the conference.

With the victory, UWL clinches the second-seed for the WIAC Championships (presented by Culver's). The Eagles receive a first round bye and will host a semifinal game on Thursday, November 4 at 6 p.m. 

The Eagles took a 1-0 lead Saturday at 15:35 with Sophie Amundson scoring off assists from Ellie Arndt and Rachael Janes.  Maggie Hernandez goal at 43:42 gave UWL a 2-0 lead. Ainsley Allan recorded the assist.  UWL maintained its 2-0 lead at halftime, outshooting UW-Whitewater, 6-5.  Both teams had two corner kicks in the first half.  

Amundson scored her second goal of the game at 48:43 on a penalty kick to give UWL a 3-0 lead.

UWL totaled nine shots in the game with three on goal. Amundson had two shots on goal. UW-Whitewater finished with 12 shots, including four on goal. Anna Brodjian had three shots with two on goal. Sarah Clancy and Anna Boyd each had two shots. 

UWL finished with four corner kicks and UW-Whitewater with three. 

Quinn Shannon recorded four saves in goal for UWL, playing 81:51. Sophie Anger played 8:09 in goal. Lilly Horne played all 90:00 in goal for UW-Whitewater.

UWL recorded its seventh shutout of the year.

Amundson, Shannon and Katie Feller were honored prior to the start of the game on Senior Day.
