Decorah, Iowa - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's swimming & diving team opened its 2021-22 season with a 213-83 dual win at Luther College (Iowa) Friday night.
UWL won 12 individual events and both relays on Friday night as it opened the year under head coach
Steve Mohs.
Nick Litterer captured three titles for the Eagles, including the 100 (48.89) and 200 (1:49.56) freestyle and 200 I.M. (2:03.41).
Evan Zimdars swept the diving events, winning the one (249.50 points) and three-meter (243.45) crowns.
Ming Ong and
Will Quackenbush each won a pair of events Friday with Ong taking the 50 (25.13) and 100 (54.20) backstroke and Quackenbush the 50 breaststroke (29.05) and 500 freestyle (5:02.76).
Other winners included
Blake Nelson in the 50 freestyle (22.41),
Jacob Brehmer the 100 breaststroke (1:05.76) and
Andrew Perrin the 1,000 freestyle (10:41.46).
UWL swept the relays with Ong,
Blake Harre,
Connor Cleveland and Nelson winning the 200 medley relay (1:40.73) and Nelson,
Alex Starr, Quackenbush and Litterer the 200 freestyle relay (1:30.69).
Cleveland had a pair of second-place finishes on Friday in the 50 (22.42) and 100 (49.58) freestyle.
Will Jager was second (29.25) in the 50 breaststroke and third in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.54) while
Gavin Vink finished third in the 50 breaststroke (30.16) and Harre second in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.44).
Jonathan Pella placed third in the 200 freestyle (1:52.96) and 200 I.M. (2:07.47).
Andrew Groth was second in the 200 freestyle (1:52.24) while
Tony McNiff finished second in the one (244.05) and three-meter (219.82) diving.
Joey Marchiando placed third in the one-meter diving (225.30) with
Vance Winter third in the three-meter (208.88).
Other third-place finishes included
Jackson Mishuk in the 50 (24.79) and 100 (56.94) butterfly,
Jackson Plautz in the 50 freestyle (22.92),
Ben Seelhammer in the 500 freestyle (5:22.82), Sebiyam Werdin-Kennicot in the 1,000 freestyle (11:20.55) and
Zach Vinson in the 50 backstroke (25.88).
UWL returns to action Saturday, October 30 at the Northfield Colleges Quad Classic in Northfield, Minnesota at 10 a.m.
