UWL Sweeps UW-River Falls in Regular-Season Home Finale

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball team, receiving votes on this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top-25 Poll, earned a 3-0 (25-23, 25-17, 25-18) victory over UW-River Falls Wednesday night in the Eagles' regular-season home finale and Senior Night.  UWL improves to 18-8 overall and 4-2 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while UW-River Falls drops to 12-13 overall and 1-5 in the conference. 

UWL honored its seven seniors, Isabelle Jensen, Emily JeneweinLiz Lansink, Emma Lawrence, Meghan PaidarSophie Quelle, and Lauren Young, prior to Wednesday's game.

UW-River Falls took a 10-5 lead in the opening set after a 6-0 run. UWL came back to force a 14-14 on a Lawrence kill after a 3-0 run by the Eagles. The Falcons later came back to take a 19-17 lead on back-to-back kills from Kameri Meredith and Rayveen Koha-Jallah.  The set was tied, 22-22, when Gabrialla Johnson recorded a kill for UWL and UW-River Falls a hitting error to make it 24-22. Katie Koerper's kill for the Falcons cut it to 24-23, but the Eagles secured the set after a Falcons' service error.

Emma Lawrence finished with 12 kills and 10 digs.


UWL never trailed in the second set, scoring four of the first five points. UW-River Falls later cut it to 12-10, but UWL's 8-1 run made it 20-11. The Falcons could get no closer than seven points the rest of the set. 

The third set was tied, 3-3, when UWL scored the next four points for a 7-3 advantage. The Eagles would never trail the rest of the set.  UW-River Falls cut it to 16-15, but four straight points for UWL gave the Eagles a 20-15 lead. UWL scored nine of the final 12 points.

Lawrence led UWL with 12 kills while hitting .323 (12-2-31) while Anna Rossner finished with seven and hit .312 (7-2-16). Brianne Korducki had six kills while hitting .417 (6-1-12). Jackie Oetterer had 14 assists and Megan Adams 11 as the Eagles hit .212 (39-15-113). 

Quelle led UWL with 22 digs with Lawrence finishing with 10 and Sydney Fedderly nine.  The Eagles had 5.0 team blocks. 

Koerper led UW-River Falls with eight kills with Meredith and Sami Hilley each having seven. Haley Cuba recorded 26 assists with the Falcons hitting .076 (30-20-131).  Brooke Voigt finished with 19 digs and Koerper 11. UW-River Falls finished with 5.0 team blocks. 

UWL returns to action Friday, October 22 with a pair of matches at Concordia University Wisconsin. The Eagles face Illinois Institute of Technology at 5 p.m. and host Concordia Wisconsin at 7 p.m.
