Box Score La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball team, receiving votes on this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top-25 Poll, earned a 3-1 (25-20, 12-25, 29-27, 25-13) win over UW-Platteville Saturday afternoon in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles improve to 15-3 overall and 3-0 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Pioneers drop to 9-10 overall and 0-3 in the conference.
It is UWL's sixth straight win over UW-Platteville.
Jackie Oetterer had 22 assists.
The Eagles led, 13-11, in the opening set when they used a 5-2 run to lead 18-13 after a
Emma Lawrence kill. UW-Plateville could get no closer than four points the rest of the set. The Pioneers came back to take the second set, using a 7-0 run to take a 17-8 lead. UW-Platteville scored 15 of the final 19 points in the set.
UW-Platteville led, 14-8, in the third set, but UWL scored three straight points to cut the lead to 14-11. The Eagles tied the set, 17-17, on a
Sydney Fedderly kill, but back-to-back points gave the Pioneers a 19-17 lead. UWL took a 23-22 lead, but Emma Carlson's kill tied it at 23-23. Lawrence gave UWL a 28-27 lead with a kill and UW-Platteville's hitting error gave the Eagles the third set victory.
Sydney Fedderly had nine kills and 15 digs.
The fourth set was tied, 3-3, when UWL scored six straight points for a 9-3 advantage. Fedderly had three kills in the run. The Pioneers cut it to 13-10 on a kill from Olivia Kudronowciz, but could get no closer the rest of the set. UWL used an 11-2 run to end the match. The team hit .342 (18-5-38) in the set.
Lawrence led UWL with 26 kills while hitting .364 (26-6-55).
Brianne Korducki finished with 11 kills while Fedderly totaled nine and hit .350 (9-2-20).
Megan Adams and
Jackie Oetterer each had 22 assists as the Eagles hit .255 (60-20-157).
Lawrence recorded a match-high 28 digs while Fedderly finished with 15 and Adams 10.
Kudronowicz led UW-Platteville with 13 kills while Kaite Asche finished with 10 and Carlson nine. Sam Rossetti finished with 17 assists and Abby Feldmann with 13 as the Pioneers hit .162 (41-17-148). Shea Lauria led the team with 15 digs while Nicki Kammerzelt finished with 14 and Kudronowicz 10. UW-Platteville recorded 7.0 total team blocks.
UWL returns to action Wednesday, October 6 at UW-Whitewater at 7 p.m.
